We were at the Players Meeting Saturday night and we got to see some nice little actions among these players.
Edwin Montal paired up against a young player from the Northeast for a thousand dollar set at the practice tables in the Convention Center that night. He was one set winner when we left for QMaster.
When we got to QMaster, Vann Vann was warming up and told me he was waiting for Corey Deuel to show up. Corey and Vann Vann agreed to a race to 11 Rotation even games for some cheap set. Corey ended up wining the race by a game.
Van Boening walked in and started looking around; Ronnie Alcano walked in right afterwards and drifted towards Shane. Greeted each other and Shane asked for a spot from Ronnie for some three hundred dollar set. Ronnie started laughing and replied; "You've got to be crazy! You don't need a spot, and I don't play three hundred dollar set, make it at least five hundred and I might play you!"
They bickered for a while and decided to play five hundred dollar race to 11 set of ten ball even games. The score went back and forth for a while but it was evident that Alcano was the better player although Shane beat him last year in the Finals. Final score was 11-8 for the first set.
They played another set but on this set both of them had a number of unforced errors. Both of them missed shots that they should not have but overall it was Ronnie's show but as luck would have it about great players, whoever Lady Luck smiles upon would get the cheese. Shane won the second set on a double hill set.
Ronnie asked Shane if he would like to play another set for a thousand but Shane wasn't too keen on the proposal so they just called it a night.
Tony Chohan and some dude were playing One hole next table but we left before they were finished. McCreesh and Larry Kressel were also playing One hole at another table but we didn't know what happened.
That's it for now, guys, these were the only notable actions to report on last Saturday night.
