Does anyone know if Danny Delaberto will be attending the Open? Looking forward to meeting some of the AZbers, also. Regards, Kennyratt

K-man,
I've heard through the grapevine that Danny DiLiberto will be doing lots of the commentary at the U.S. Open this year. For all the straight pool and one-pocket geeks - you are really missing out if you don't get some lessons from Danny D.; he's one of the masters.

Thanks for the reply, Willie.Lessons may not stick with me, but I would ask Danny about the best instructional tape he would reccomend. 14.1 that is . Do you have any suggestions? kennyratt

KR,
Well there are few good instructional tapes available (Accu-Stats matches are helpful, but not really instructional). Jim Rempe's tapes "How to Run a Rack of Straight Pool" and "How to Run a Hundred at Straight Pool" are the best.

Let me emphasize (as someone who has purchased and studied almost every book and Accu-Stats tape regarding pool) that what teachers like Danny D. and Grady Mathews offer is NOT, I repeat NOT in any book or tape. Not only that, but what they offer is absolutely essential knowledge for players that hope to progress any where near a pro level - you would have to be extremely fortunate to learn these things in any sort of reasonable time frame without their assistance.

Part of the problem is that any student can learn the solid, fundamental principles of straight pool - but knowing when to apply them, and when to break them is the key. It is a tremendous experience to play with the masters and let them explain AS THEY PLAY what they are thinking and why they are doing what they are doing. Trust me, there is a whole world of straight pool and one-pocket knowledge that is not in the books. Good luck.
