I really hope Rodney wins. He is such a great player and it would give him confidence heading into the Mosconi Cup
He might draw some confidence if he wins the event, but it's not the perfect prep event, since Rodney needs to be practicing the break that will apply at the Mosconi in which the nine will be racked on the spot and breaks of all speeds will be permitted. Rodney fared poorly at the 2011 Mosconi Cup with the nine racked on the spot, delivering just one point in doubles and none in singles.
Still, it's a very good purse event and Rodney is going for it! Rodney's increased participation in major WPA sanctioned events overseas is good for both him and for pro pool. Good luck to him.
As he showed at the World 10-ball event, the pedigree is there and so is the form. In that event, the final six were Ko, Wu, Biado, Vann Corteza, Orcullo and Rodney. It was Rodney that hoisted the trophy! Odds are that he's facing yet another killer field, as is typically the case at the Japan Open.
I hope Rodney's not bringing a jet lag issue into play that will affect him during the Mosconi.
Of course, Rodney understands all of this and I greatly respect his decision to play in Japan. Go get 'em, Rodney.
