Why aren't players/backers teaming up to respond to the destruction that is the world vs USA?
Doesnt have to be USA players alone, can you imagine Shaw, Shane, Bergman, Deschaine, Alex all spending time together to take on the world? Guys like Chohan thrown in with JJ and everybody else on the "team" picking apart the errors. Kaci is here all the time also along with Alex and others. Guys like Ronnie Wise(everything's funny when you're winning big money)man. All of them with a single purpose.....take down the world and reestablish our dominance.
Jason
You do know that Shaw, Kaci and Alex are not Americans, right? And iirc Wiseman is not only Canadian but almost 60 if not 60 already. Really have no clue what you're proposing to do. The Asian-Euro dominance of pool won't be stopping anytime soon. Why aren't players/backers teaming up to respond to the destruction that is the world vs USA?

I don't see what is so hard to understand about this.. Pool halls are dying everywhere because of various socio-economic reasons, there are literally 1/4 of the WEEKLY tournaments as compared to when I was in my early 20's. When I was young, EVERYBODY could play in ANY event. No one EVER got barred. Nowadays, if you run a couple of racks, you are politely told that this tournament is "not for pros".
Europe and China do well because they have 20 stone cold killers show up to EVERY big event. They have 5 killers that show up to EVERY weekly event, plus another 5-10 very capable players, plus another 20 who can definitely run a rack.
America is falling behind because there is simply nobody playing pool. The top talent here has to have a steady stream of good players to compete against on a regular basis, and we JUST DON'T HAVE THAT ANYMORE. I used to play a Wednesday night 9 ball tournament in Tacoma, WA, that drew 32 players EVERY WEEK for something like 3 years. The same event now is lucky if they get 12-16.
Once players get to a certain skill level in America, they get banned from all their weekly tournaments, so the only way they can pay the bills is to gamble. THEN, once they slay all the guppies, the games get too tough, and then they have to go match up with Shane to make the rent. Yeah, good luck with that.
People act like, "Oh, American players.. Why don't you just TRY harder... time u lazy, or what?!?!?!?!"
What great "war" are you talking about? Team play? Heads-up action matches? What is this apocalyptic pool battle you refer to? If you're waiting for NorthAmerican pool to somehow gain equal footing with Euro/Asia i hope you are a very patient person. How many US players below the age of 30 do you think have aspirations to be a world-class player? Who's going to take the place of the current top-class players? There's 13-14yr. old kids in Europe RIGHT NOW that are borderline champions. Not just one or two either. Asia??? The numbers of young champs-to-be is crazy. They all live here. It's not that hard.

Who/where is this "young talent" you refer to? I ask because i follow the game pretty closely and i see very few under 30 players making any waves whatsoever. B. Thorpe and Tyler Steier come to mind but who else? I'd love to see more but where are they?In America its popular to chase the pro athlete lifestyle through major network televised sports.
The person with the best chance to dominate billiards won't be some under 40 something with a lot of potential.
I think its going to be a semi-retired professional, that doesn't have to worry about the money. Someone that does it because they can afford to and won't have to sacrifice a lot for it.
The young talent in the US is strong, they have the ability to win. But if they had more stability outside of their pool talent, they'd perform at much higher levels.
Most US pros have a lot going on outside of the tournament. It'd make more sense they can't afford to exclusively focus on winning major titles, they have families, jobs and other responsibilities.
Big-table is not dying because people are stupid/lazy. There is just very little interest with the people that really matter: those under 25(or younger). You can keep knocking leagues all you want but how's that going to help "real poolhall pool"? There are a bunch of reasons why big-table pool isn't as popular now. If you can't get kids started the rest of the reasons don't really matter. Euro-style clubs would be awesome but do you really see that happening? And why can't we compete? Cause all people want to do is have a reason to go drink and shoot balls into the rails! Shame really, but you can't fix stupid with lazy and that's what most people have become.

Exactly.
League mentality killing pool.
Yep. There may be a few spots that can survive without league play but they're in the minority. I'm kinda curious also if SBC's upstate NY location doesn't help weather-wise? During roughly half the year your sporting choices are kinda limited. I know in Wisconsin the bowling alleys are freakin packed during the winter. If there no leagues there's no way Pool Halls can keep the doors open. This aint the 70's, it takes foot traffic to pay the bills and the BCA and APA equal foot traffic.
The good old days of a bunch of guys sitting in a Pool Hall taking up space, hustling tricks, but not spending any Money in the Pool Hall are gone, because the owners know they need the leagues to pay the bills, so they cater to the people that pay the bills.
No APA, no BCA, no Pool Halls.
