US qualifier for Manila-qualifiers

I thought of this sosialistic idea today (as a Libertarian myself, that hurts), and I will try to organize a qualifier like this in Norway:

One tournament where the winner gets the pot IF he goes to Manila to try to qualify. (The player who finish highest in the tournament AND goes to Manila gets the money, so if you finish 1st but can't go, the one who actaully goes gets the money. With this system it is not just a tournament where the winner gets cash, but where the money are spent on the purpose it was supposed to be spent on)

The idea:

32 players paying 75 $ entryfee.

The winner gets the money and goes to Manila. (It's 2400 $, which will probably not cover all the expences, but better than nothing)

Ok, this sound like a normal qualifier, you might think. But I think this is a tournament that will attract weaker players too.

Why would B, C and D players join this tournament?

Because everyone who join it will get a piece of the action!

If 32 players join, the guy who travels and tries to qualify will get 45 % of whatever he wins from the maintournament. Runner up will get 10 % and the remaining 45 % will be split on everyone who tried to qualify and then "supported" the winner.

So, if for example player A wins the qualifier, and then gets a semifinal in the World Championship and collects 20 000 $, the pot will be split:

Player A, 9 000 $
Player B (runner up) 2 000 $
The other 30 players, 300 $ each.

(IMPORTANT: calculations done without taxes) If more players in the qualifier, the percentage of the remaining players will be less.

What do you think of this? Was it understandable? Could it be worth a try even in America?

ive actually had this conversation here recently and i think its a great idea.its like a satellite with benfits! with everybody having a chance to benefit even if they dont get to go. i would say make the entry more,even double to 150.that should take care of expenses but still low enough to make people interested.

I think your idea is creative and it could be fun for all.

Would the game, races etc be the same as the big tournament?

BTW, I think this type of tournament should be advertised as a regional or national tournament. Regional, a little easier to get to. National not as desirable unless it is at an existing event like DCC. That might be a nice additional tournament for DCC to have. In fact I like that idea A LOT. It could be short and sweet, maybe single elimination and winner has to go to WPC.

BTW, I think this type of tournament should be advertised as a regional or national tournament. Regional, a little easier to get to. Someone should make a tournament like this AT the US Open, with probably more than 150 players that would like to get a shot at it.
