used cue prices...

there is a surprising depth

I don't think pool cues are a good investment. The primary reason is the lack of depth in the market. A lot of times what drive investments up in value is liquidity. Think of it like this - you go to an auction and there is only one buyer with a pocket full of money. Then you go to another auction and there are 10 buyers with pockets full of money.

Now having said that, I'm sure there are a lot of members on this forum that make money buying and selling cues. Good for them. But, I think it would be a tough business.

What we need is an Obama new/used pool cue stimulus package.

For me, pool cues are collectible. So why would I want cue prices to go up? To me, the only people who would want prices to go up are people who want to sell. I don't want to sell I want to buy.

I think you'll find that there is a surprising depth to the pool cue market. One indicator is that there is a published ,"Blue Book," for prior owned cues. Additionally , as I write this, there are more than 6,000 pool cues listed for sale on E-bay with a top price for one of $11,060.00. This is not a shallow market.
There is constant , active trading going on in pool cues. It's amazing. And fun , if you can find a niche that you feel comfortable with.

Agreed. Certain cue builders will always continue to appreciate. No matter what the economy does. Again, if you get into a certain cue right, you'll never lose.

Hey run. While i agree with you to a point i am not dodging bullets for 6 figures. Doesnt matter how much your paid when a 6 year old girl kills you with a bomb in her lunchbox...

oh worry,worry,worry

Where the F did that come from. That's sick. To think a person would bomb and destroy a 6 figure pool cue. I would hope that the person holding the stick would die shielding it with his body.

Dave is merely referring to my job here in Afghanistan.

Dave, I hear you and understand where your coming from with that comment but at the same time I have been here for 3 years and 1 month already. I am not coming home for good until at least May 2011. Over time I have advanced in my career with this company and put myself in a "good" position. Shit happens here in Kabul everywhere but the best you can do is try to set yourself up to be in the best position possible. It can't be that bad if I am sitting here during work hours chatting with you guys on AZ right? LOL

Besides that, my Gus will be waiting for me upon my return!!! LOL

By the way, I am going to Jersey to see my folks possibly in May. They live in Pennsville. Not too far from you. We should play some. Even though I have only played a few times being here for 3 years and no practice.....I am willing to embarass myself a bit for good company.

When someone has to start thinking of things they can do without ... a $7K cue is right up there with a second Bentley.

LWW

What do people do with $7K cues? If I had one I sure wouldn't play with it unless I was a rich! I guess high end collectors just put cues like that up to look at since they obviously don't need the money and they can sit on them.

I've bought and sold quite a few cues and when I get one in the $3K range I don't usually play with it. I play with a Runde S/P style cue and it plays as well as any custom cue i've owned with no worries something happening to it. I have a couple of expensive custom cues that I don't take to the pool room. The Runde plays just fine for the money I have invested in it and my money is safe playing with a cue like that. Let's say I have a $3K cue and someone walks off with it while i'm in the restroom or say it gets knocked over and dinged up by accident. I'd much rather loose the Runde than my 8 point Mottey cue if one of them was stolen or damaged.

I'm sure you know a lot more about pool cue investing and the depth of the market than I will every know. So, I will yield to you Sir.
