I've had a number of items shipped to me through the US Postal Service and I don't understand their tracking system or lack there of. I go to www.usps.com web site and put in the tracking number that the shipper provided me and I very seldom get any information.

Has anybody else had similar experiences?

Most of my damaged packages have been by the Post Office also.

James,

Unless you are using their air freight services and shipping over seas, the USPS tracking system is junk. It really is just delivery confirmation. For me, the only time I need it is when it is not delivered, and their system won't tell me anything until it is delivered. Let's face it, if the package is delivered, then I don't need to locate it do I.

We use UPS for all shipping inside the US.

I agree that their tracking system is pretty lousy. If I remember correctly it really only pertains to items shipped via Express Mail (overnight service). On Priority Post (2-3 business days) the items always arrive prior to any tracking information becoming available.

I typically use the USPS for shipping as it is part of the federal government, is less expensive, easier access, will insure packages for whatever value your willing to pay the insurance on and I have never yet had a damaged package.

I avoid using USPS at all costs for shipping as I have had several items that never were delivered. Even if what I am have shipped costs me extra money to ship it differently so I know it will come UPS or Fed Ex that extra money is well worth it!

I do all my shipping with the Postal Service, and use Delivery Confirmation, and it is CHEAP and Works.

This is not the time of year to ship with anyone, as the workers are over worked.
