I am currently using Dupont Chroma Clear on my cues, but that booth that was posted a couple of weeks ago by Brianna looks appealing to me. However, I know absolutely nothing about UV Finishes, so I have a few questions:
1. Somebody mentioned that it was environment friendly. Does this mean that it is a lot safer than the Auto Finish as far as the fumes go?
2. I was told that it won't shine like the Automotive finish, but can get close. Is this true?
I'm looking for something I can spray inside during the winter. I know some people who spray auto finish in their basement with ventilation, but I won't even open a can inside or I can smell it upstairs.
Thanks for any help
Tony, There are a lot of cue makers that have given up on UV finish, or spray Auto clear on top of UV finish to get it to shine. We do make a UV finish that will outshine any auto clear coat on the market today. It makes finishing cues, a very simple process. I have studied for over a year on UV finish and there are a lot of myths out there about it and it's results.
The common UV finish that is used by cue makers today will not buff to the highest shine. Besides not buffing to a high shine, it will not adhere to your cues. You cannot spray UV finish directly onto a cue, and waterborne sealers are very poor in sealing up the cue. I am very bold about my statements, because I have studied, and researched all the methods and finishes out there. I have worked closely with the UV light companies, Chemist, Paint companies and Cue makers in the field of Uv finish. This is the reality of UV finishes - Some lights will not cure some finishes. Some finishes will not cure completely, and some will not cure at all. This is due to process when they make their product, the light intensity, light distance, and travel speed at which you scan the cue. You can get finish too soft, too hard, too brittle, and some that yellows. I have tried over 20 finishes, and finally have found one that works. Our finish will stand the abuse test, adhere to your cues, and shine like you have never seen it shine.
There are cue makers using our booth, with our finish, our sealing product, our suggested buffing products, and have absolutely wonderful results. I have cue makers that will not put UV finish cues next to their Auto Finish cues at a show, because they shine more, and are clearer.
IMO there is no substitute for paying less money for a UV setup. It has been done over and over, and your results will lead you back to Auto Clear - I promise... Our UV setup will cure a cue in less than 1 minute, and you can finish a cue in less than 1 hour. It does work!!!
One last thing, our UV finish is less harmful then Auto Clear, but you always need to take respiratory precautions, and wear face and eye protection. UV finish will settle on the eye, harden under lights, and cause permanent blindness... Also our finish can be brushed on the cue without spraying, it has been done by 2 separate cue makers with great results.
I hate to try to plug my business on here, but I have to let all the cue makers know where I stand on UV finishes. PM me if you have further questions, I am always willing to help...
