Valley Barbox Models Questions

Hi Gang;

I have a friend who is in need of 2 barboxes for her bar. While Diamonds would be the nuts, they are way too expensive.

In my experience, Valley historically made some tough commercial tables that play well. So, we decided that we're going to begin the hunt for a couple of real nice used 7 foot coin op Valleys.

I now see that there are different models and I wonder a few things:

Is there a particular model considered to be the one to get, or more importantly, the one you should avoid?

Are the newer Valley tables imported as compared with the older USA models or do they continue to be made here?

If the newer models are imports, can someone tell me when they went overseas and is there a way to differentiate these (by model name, appearance, serial #, etc.)?

Does it seem reasonable to expect two excellent used 7' Valleys can be had, set up and delivered, for $2k - $2500?

Any and all comments/opinions/suggestions welcome.

TIA!

Best,
Brian kc

I spoke with them this morning and a tourney used 7' table is approx $4200. which they will lease to own for "less than $4.00 per day" as advertised.

However, there's a little more to it. The customer has to pay a $200 UCC lease filing fee and another approx $800. as a down payment. The loan term is 60 months and the finance rate is 18.9 %. This adds up to approx $8000. for a tourney used 7' barbox.

But wait, there's a little more: Shipping and setup they said would be approx $1000 per table.

Approx $9000. for a barbox, even a real nice, tourney used Diamond is not a good deal IMO. And we need two, so that would end up costing $18,000.

They did say if we waited til SBE in March, there would be a reduced shipping/setup charge since Valley Forge is a few hundred miles closer. Unfortunately, still way too much.

I think, purely from an economic standpoint, we're forced to pursue the excellent condition used Valleys.

Any further info on these would be appreciated.

Do you have any local vending companies you can check with? That's where I got mine and a lot of times they have them sitting around. Check Craig's list or put an ad on there that you're looking for some. I've seen many for under $1,000 even around that $500 range. There's probably a gazillion of them in people's basements that they'd love to get rid of. In my opinion the older darker colored ones with the rounded corners vs. the squared off corners are better built. Good luck.

If you can get a couple with the down corners i think they are better than the ones with the concaved corner trim pieces . I think they have better slate support also.

An example of the down corner with the two strip corner trim pieces.

Do a search , many vending companies sell used on the internet , and i see them on EBAY and Craigslist often.

Man, that rent-to-own program is a beast. But to play devil's advocate, you could buy them outright for much, much less. With that said, if it's Valley tables you're looking for, you have a bit of a conundrum on your hands.

Aesthetically speaking, the new models are superior. They don't have that annoying raised metal edge around all four corners, and the corner pocket lip is not raised off the top of the rail. It's an entirely flush, level surface (finally).

However, the new ones also have a major problem spitting balls back onto the table. And they're still using borderline-ancient technology when it comes to the return and the cue ball.

If it were me, and budget was indeed a factor, I'd try to find an older model in good (used) shape. I'd say that will give the best return on investment. Just my opinion.
