I am just curious about any dominating type perfomances from players in a bar box setting similar to the pit at Valley Forge. For example, number of consecutive racks that a player has been victorious or number of racks that a player has actually broke and run in a winner stays on type format. After league, it is common for many players in our area to player a $5 per man winner stays on 9 ball game. It is not common for a player to control the table for 6 or 7 games in a row. All of the players play good bar box pool, but nothing like the players in the pit at Valley Forge.
One thing that sticks in my mind is losing to a player named Adam Stanton a in the 2002 open division at Valley Forge. We were in the top 64, so we both were guaranteed money. Obviously, a person must play decent to get to that point. After losing 4-5, 5-3 and 4-5 to Adam, I wished him luck and took my $450 home. I was talking to another player at the event who had asked about my elimination from the event. He proceeded to tell me not to worry about losing to a player of that caliber. I was a little perplexed because, although Adam plays very well, I never dreamed that he played at the level this guy was telling me about....he proceeded to tell me that Adam had run 16 racks in a row on a bar box up there in a $5-$10 ring game with like 8 players. And, according to this guy, they were paying double for runs. That is a lot of cash.
Does anyone have any interesting stories regarding the pit at Valley Forge or anywhere else for that matter?
It isn't everyday that a group of however many world class players get together to play in a winner stays on type format on a bar box.
