Value of a cue

Alot of folks on here don't give a sh*t about the playability of a cue.. its all about the money how much you paid vs how much you can get. you shuffle cues like a deck of cards.. trade this one for that. swap that for another keep building up the price... WHY?????

I understand collectors.. I collect many things.. I can't afford to dump $1000 a month for a new cue... I have kids and a wife an a mortgage. If you are buying one for the sake of owning one then the following rant isn't directed towards you.

if you want a cue just to have one of {insert name here} I get that.

but many have a new cue every week. it's worth a grand but you can't play with it. you don't know or even care how it hits. you can't make 3 balls with the f**king thing but its the greatest thing since sliced bread because "somechump" made it.

I have a one of a kind cue made by {insert name here} it has 4 shafts the two that came with it as well as a predator and an OB-1. I can't play for sh*t with the thing but then again I never tried. but it cost me a ton of money even tho it hurts my game.. Who wants to buy it for far more than I paid????

Get a good cue and play with it, learn it, stop trying to buy a stroke, they ain't for sale. You gotta earn one, thats the only way you can get one..

Quality custom made cues are NOT the stock market the only reason to buy a custom cue is to have it made EXACTLY how you want it... buying one just to sell it a week later is just a JUNK BOND deal. Anyone stupid enough to buy a custom cue that was not made FOR them is a fool and deserves what they get.

A piece of sh*t that looks great is still a piece of sh*t.

Who pee'd in your cherrios ?

I'm trying to figure out why there are so many people who are so worried about how other people live thier lives and spend thier own money . . .

My cheerios have been peed in so often and for so long that the instigator has been lost to the sands of time...

I am just fed up with "KIDS" running their mouths holding a $2500 cue that daddy bought for them and hearing how I'm a sack of sh*t because I don't own one. I run the table on them over and over till I get bored and they walk off like they own the place not even acknologing that they got beat, because they lost shooting with "somechumps" cue.

P.S. I have been "on the forums" since "93" I'll be just fine ... thanks....

Actually sounds like your on the verge of a break down. ;)

Maybe you should find people you 'like' to play with instead.

And/Or . . .

Play these "Kids" straight for their cues.

You might be right, but I pride myself on playing ANYBODY, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE.

I should take their cues, your right, but I don't gamble, ever

I don't have religious or otherwise bullsh*t reason why,

Save for the fact that THE GAMBLERS are the #1 reason no one respects pool.

Gamblers are shady people with shady motives who will lie and steal and cheat till they win.

There is no such thing as a straight game with a gambler.

I grew up in Nevada and from day one I was taught that gambling is how WE fleece the tourists.

Gambling at pool is just dice with a rigged cup especially when playing 9-ball.

I don't agree with your assessment of gamblers. I have seen strickly league players lie, steal, and cheat to win. I have also known some big gamblers who would never think of doing such a thing. Of course, you find all walks of life in anything, but to generalize gamblers as liars and cheats is not right. I like to gamble and hardly do I ever cheat! ;)

I am sorry you don't agree, however it doesn't make it any less true.

I hardly ever lie when talking about gambling.

That is fine if you don't agree with me about gamblers. However, I do know people who will bet anything on a cointoss, pulling high card, etc. If they lose, they are fine with it and pay up. They just like to gamble and that is it. I don't see how you saying that there is never a straight game with a gambler is a valid statement.

It is valid from my perspective, as I have never seen a valid straight game with money on the line.. it always boils down to an obscure rule, or walking up to the table with your left foot forward or your ferule almost touched the cueball in such a way that you now owe me money..

When money is on the line people will do ANYTHING to get the money.
The more they need it the farther they are willing to stoop to get it..

you can't trust a gambler.. period..

I am sorry you have never had any good experiences gambling. Maybe it is just the people who you have dealt with that give you this strong opinion about ALL gamblers. It sounds as though we have played some of the same people!;) If you would like, I could set you up with some honest, hard-working people, who just happen to like to wager a little bit. Trust me, not all gamblers are terrible human being who will do anything to get the money! Alot may be, but not all. :D

Haha! I hardly ever lie when talking about the lies I tell.

I understand your frustration and where you are coming from. But really it is from a position of jealousy. You always do what is right with your money: pay the mortgage and feed the kids and it is not easy being the good guy all the time. You are jealous of the kids that have the cash to burn (maybe because they live with Mommy and Daddy) on expensive cues.

Deep down, the free and easy lifestyle still calls to you. It does the same to me all of the time, but I have a family that depends on me.

Thing is.... the more cues that are purchased and moved around, the more money and interest we have flowing in the pool world. More people taking interest in pool is a great thing and should be encouraged by the more experienced players (you). The bangers are what keep the pool halls open. Let them have their fancy equipment. Let them enjoy the sport. At least until you wax their butts on the table!

Sorry, I just saw your post that you mentioned that you never gamble.

Hey, if we ever meet I will show you my sweet cue collection. I really like the new one I bought- it is so pretty and expensive. I bet it plays good to, but I will never know! :)

there MIGHT be one or two, but like I said I grew up in Nevada and I'd wager... (HA HA) that I have seen more of them than you have.

They come into town broke and leave the same way. they might ride the wave for a day or two but they will always end up where they started broke and on the road. there are two types of gamblers the billionaires who can afford to lose and the broke ass mother f**kers who can't.

if your hanging with the billionaires good for you if your gambling with the others you will lose your money to them whether they beat you in the game or not.

So, the billionaires are liars and cheats because they gamble? I am not hanging with billionaires yet, but hope to soon! However, I do often gamble with people who are well-off and don't need to win to survive. They will feel the same if they win or not. I see where you are coming from, but to say that all gamblers are liars and cheats is not fair to everyone. I would bet that the majority of the people of this forum gamble, one way or another.

truth be told I have a nice cue.. I'm not jealous seriously.
Its like seeing a guy in a brand new Ferrari, but you know he doesn't have a license.

Now, don't go start gambling now. Well, I play so bad, it wouldn't be gambling at all. Honestly, after my cues were stolen(by a gambler of course :p) I played with a $50 cue and really couldn't tell a huge difference. I still sucked!

I guess maybe you just haven't noticed yet. You really don't have to play lights-out to enjoy (and succeed at) collecting nice cues.

Braging about your collection and expecting it to make you play better, that's a different story.

Good cue doesn't equal good player....who really cares what you play with. Seems to me a guy who complains because others have nice cues has no right to point fingers at anyone who complains he plays with a cheaper cue. Same thing from a different angle is all.
I have purchased several cues some expensive some not expensive all with the purpose of shooting with them. Some I liked some I didn't. Truth is, the only way to find out which one you like the best is to play with them. Makes more sense if you can do that to find which one fits your groove the best rather than sticking with one because you hate people who talk about their new cue.
