Vegas

I think he was pointed out to me once, but I wouldn't recognize him.
Tall, looks like Vince Vaugn(the actor) also known as tall Bobby to people like Jay Helfert and those that knew him back then.

I showed up around 8 or 9 am at griffs one morning and he had beaten another famous poker player/announcer out of $240,000 😲

Solid dude, and I saw him adjust the spot for a guy that clearly couldn't beat him after a few games into the set. I got a whole new appreciation for him after seeing that.

The Orleans and 5 or 6 others are on that side of the highway.

Pretty sure his trip isn't geared around griffs anyway

Oh, wow, that is cool. I see that the Orleans hotel is really cheap too (only around $80 per night), and only about 2 miles away from Griffs. Lol, I just assumed that the west side was nothing but residential homes.

Considering going to Vegas in late June. Having never been, if anyone could/would recommend places to stay/stay away from, do's, don'ts, etc, that would be great.
Things I'm looking into...
Hotel accommodations (preferably bedbug free).
Places to eat, shows, billiard locations, etc
My thanks to all in advance.

Have not been to sin city Since 2008, use to go every few month, or when I was working couple of time a week.

Las Vegas is not the same, everything is pricy, the days of cheap breakfast, great bargain buffets, free hotel parking are over. Everything is pricy like the other Magic Kingdom, aka Disneyland. Be prepared to pay for parking your car, and resort fee over your base hotel motel rate. Take money, take credit card, enjoy the experience, and remember the Good Old daycare over.

Breakfast at Barbary Coast Casino, across from Cesars was , Three Eggs any want you want, Hash-browns, Bacon, Sausage, or Ham...Or for any Extra Buck you got a Steak, and choice of Toast, English Muffin, or Bagel & Coffee 12a- 6a under $6.00 including tip.

Spot on! Vegas completely pivoted from hospitality to pure monetization. The loss of free parking, budget buffets, and cheap late-night specials like the Barbary Coast breakfast really hurts the classic vibe. Nowadays you need a Disney-sized budget just to hang out on the Strip!

I first went to Las Vegas for the US Open in 1969 at the Sahara. It was cheap and I felt welcome. The recent low point was the 2022 Mosconi Cup at Bally's. It's a desert but there are no water fountains. You can't bring water into the venue. A 10-ounce plain bottled water -- yes, they make it that small -- was $8.

I guess I helped pay for their $2.5 billion Sphere.

Bob I feel you're pain ! Talk about price gouging in the highest order ! All the bars have a strict no outside drinking containers policy that applies to everyone but me thankfully !
On the pool league days u walk in carrying a cue case , my oxygen machine and a stainless steel tumbler with ice water in it ha ha !
All the bar owners or bartenders know that I'm a wateraholic and I'll get it refilled up to 4 times per league match .

Every blue moon I may have a Dr Pepper but as a afterward treat if I played rather well !

So in other works I'd be broke before the first day of the Mosconi Cup would be done !

vegas is packed with those wanting or willing to spend the bucks. so what they are doing is right. having cheap only brings in cheap. and no money.

it is a place for entertainment at a higher level.

if you want cheaper go to the indian casinos or casinos in smaller towns that have them.

stay at the beverly hills hotel 1000 a night for a room and 50 bucks for a hamburger. there is a place for everyone and everyone's budget.

I happen to be in Vegas right now. I’m killing it on the comp waters. We’re out shopping etc… and I have to turn down comp waters I get so many chances. All those who remember the water controversy at 38th and Sheridan in Denver ( Hank’s at the time of the controversy) will appreciate this. I feel like the last of the big spenders being offered all this free water.

Las Vegas has changed, it use to be a bargin to go there for a weekend.

Recall going in late 90’s weekly, Midnight to 6am Breakfast Special were every where. Buffets were great & reasonable.

Today most of those specials are gone. Hotel's charge to park even if your a guest, resort fee are add to room rates.

Las Vagas has Pro Sport Team s now. Raiders, Knights, and A’s are coming I hear. Raiders Fan from LA & Bay Area are in Sin City pay premium for tickets.

My Cousin has lived there over 15+ years, he also says good old Las Vegas deals are gone. He has been Raider Fan for life, but can not afford a home game ticket in nose bleeds.

I have long list of things I love but Las Vegas has not seem me since 2008.

Love a good Taco's on Taco Tuesday from local place, love a Cold Pacifica Beer, love a good Hand Rolled Cigar, love most good Chinese feed.

I am not a gambler, if I was can drive 20 minute to two New Indian Casinos. They are both new, clean, have good food courts, and restaurants for the blue collar class, or those with money will to drop big buck for Haute Causine..

I've lived in Nevada for almost 50 years, and Las Vegas has changed probably more than other places, including Reno. It was a lot of fun in the 70's and 80's.
I've avoided LV whenever possible for over 20 years.
Last Christmas, I bought my wife two tickets to the AC DC concert this weekend (yeah, August in Las Vegas). thank god one of my daughters agreed to go with my wife so that I don't have to go.
Forecast is 115-117 for the weekend.
No thanks!

Truth from someone who has lived Neveda. Recall living in El Dorado County, just up hill was Stateline Neveda. Ever casino had great buffet & gambles special rooms, meals.

Last time I was up there it all went pricy like Las Vegas.

New business model must be working. But I wonder how long it will last?

Reno has the Peppermill, Atlantis and GSR, all well removed from the old downtown 'strip'. They are all nice and removed from the madness, along with the Sparks Nugget. Downtown Reno is in disrepair. Went to a Reno Aces game several years ago and downtown was overrun with homeless and meth freaks. Never again without a handgun.

That is sad what Reno has become. Went there several times for work. Downtown was safe because police were on Bicycles, and Cars all over.
