I actually love the overall design "cartesian" of the cue monster with the open face in lieu of the typical cue building router style with the clunky uprights that are almost always in the way. Have built 2 machines very similar to cuemonster and 2 more are in the works. I agree that 1.4" would kinda suck.
I looked at a few pictures of cue monsters online and think it would be really simple to retrofit one.

these people make a really low profile stage with kerk screws. The overall height is 1.5" and the existing motors would be a direct bolt on. They also have them in longer travels.
Jake, I have used a few of these actuators. They are built nice however I don't like the way they mounted the leadscrews. I ended up replacing them with a better pitch and spring loaded them to one side for backlash issues. Still not a bad way to go though.

Nice job Kim. I guess that you will have to buy more Venees and just make your own from now on.
