Veritasium on becoming an expert

I wonder if one of us duplicated a layout on a neutral table and took a picture of it, if the pro that shot it would immediately recognize it, where it was, who his opponent was, etc. Just like the video did with Magnus.
I think there are some 3-cushion players who would remember critical hard shots from particular games. Maybe it would be the same for 9 ball. For both, individual positions are nearly always pretty close to a dozen other layouts they have already played.

I'd almost like to try it. I think we could use the actual video footage. Take a screenshot when neither player is in the frame, and edit out the scoreboard, etc. Crop the picture to only show the table up to the rails, so as not to give away any background that might clue the player where it was.

The way it was done with Magnus, he remembered games that he didn't even play after just a few moves. IDK if that was real or BS. If its real, certainly Shane would be able to do the same with a full table picture after the break.

Maybe a sensory overload as way more games of pool get played then chess?

Gives me a flashback to a 3 rail kick to win a Doubles game. My opponent had ball in hand in 8 ball with an open table. He was So Smug when he played safe and hooked me on our one remaining ball. The 3 rail kick fell right into my daily fitness wheelhouse. 🤷‍♂️

Chess board is like a spread sheet puzzle where the modifications occur in a specific sequence. Pool not so much I think.

table layouts not really matter in pool. Patterns are different. To be able to choose best shot to current position is pool pattern that best players have. Also judging right cut angle is pattern. Aiming picture in their mind.
