A guy I play pool with has a verl horn for sale. It has 2 shafts with ivory joints and ferrules. The butt has about 50 ivory inlays. I do not have a pic yet. Anyone know of how the market is for these cues, I have never heard of them

Verl Horn out of Oklahoma was known as the "King of Ivory" for all the ivory he used in his cues. Nice cues with a smaller, but still considerable, market. A lot of cue for the money. One of the top experts on Verl Horn cues is Scott Murphy who often sets up with Sean of Cue Addicts. When you get pics, post them and I am certain you will get a feel for its value.

As you can clearly see, Dr. Wu's asking price of $2800 for a cue with 6 ivory points and lots of other ivory, and it being new, unplayed, shows how relatively cheaply a Verl Horn cue can be purchased. I have owned 2 of them, both with significant amounts of ivory, and neither with a value of over $1000. Great cues at relatively modest prices.
 
Hello: Dr. Wu's price is a dream price for a Verl Horn Cue, Ivory points or not. I have a couple of Mr. Horns cues, the most I paid was $900.00+ and they are MINT. Mr. Horn was famous for ivory, making cue parts, and convertable Cadillac automobiles, at one time he had a garage near his body shop that was full of elephant tusks, in his home Moreland, OK. I do hope your cue sells for alot of money, makes mine worth more, good luck!

I pretty much agree with the range the blue book lists for Horn cues. They seem to go range from $800-$2000, depending on the amount of ivory, asthetics, condition, etc. Last one we had sold for around $1600....ivory prongs and inlays in great condition.

Verl Horn, proof that dying doesn't make you a legend, just means your dead.

As far as those BB values.. they don't have an icon for the j/o hand shake do they?

But I liked Verl and had two of his cues. Well one was 24 oz and I had to send it to Barry Bonds.. the other came in less than two weeks and warped within a few days. But it hit good. He was fun to talk to BTW.

i once own, bought and sold ard 5 ivory prong Verl Horns (estate sales). All the 5 cues i sold off at a loss, except for a ebony forearm ivory points which i sold and broke even at 1300usd. the last pc i sold in 2004. it was a painful lesson i learned in 2000. if money on the 5 cues i spend on SWs instead....oh well, if i have bought dell shares ...

towards the end of his career he made a lot of ivory prongs, with ivory starburst or rectangular designs on buttsleeve (which actually was made by his 2 apprentices who later formed WW cues for a while).
i think u would still expect to still get ard 1000-1300 now if u put one of them on ebay.

I think I paid $1050 for the same design cue that is on the Wu link. That was just a few months ago.
