I would stay away form the smaller hobby mills because they have less carriage travel and many won't handle half inch shank cutters. Most of the Drill Mills that run $900 up are fine for cutting in point grooves.

Yeah the sherline is way too small IMO. I have a seig, and it's still too small for points, altough that was never what I intended It for anyway. Mine has the r8 taper, but not sure if it's the exact same shank taper as a bridgeport or not. If anyone has info on whether the bridgeport arbors would interchange I'd really apprietiate It. I need to buy a collet and arbor set for it, but don't want to get the incorrect size.

My guess is that R8 is R8 is R8. Having said that, when I bought some very inexpensive R8 collets for my RF25 they needed some work ... the groove was not cut deep enough and they would not go into the taper (they hit the pin). 2 minutes with the Dremel and they fit fine now.

Thank You dave,

I thought they were the same from what I've read, just was'nt positive. Something like that or the shank being too long/short what have you, is the sort of thing I was concerned about happening, but if It's something like you mention, and easy to solve, then should'nt be too much of a problem.

I do apprietiate It & Thanks again

if dollars and space aren't issues

This mill from Grizzly is reasonably priced and designed for wood and metal use. The big deal is that the maximum speed is 5000 RPM, much higher than most metal mills. Price is about $2500 shipped.
