I would most certainly agree. I don't have access to a billiards table but I do play English Billiards which is as close as I can get at the moment. These games teach you complete control over the balls, and this translates well into pool.
The best thing anyone can do to improve is to play every cue game available to you.
I've invited pool players {I'm one, myself} to play Straight-Rail Billiards and the response in most cases is: "That's too easy, let's play Three-Cusion." I would respond with: "If it's so damn easy, let's see you run 50 points from the break!" Needless to say, nobody could.
