Listen, I'm sorry for how I came off in my last post. Honestly, I hate reading my posts and seeing how snarky I can be.
Here's my opinion. I love pool and its history and I'm proud to say I play seriously. Our industry has done a great deal for the world and I'd like to see that continue. Did you know, pool provided the incentive to invent plastic? When the elephant ban went into effect, Brunswick offered cash to the person that could invent a suitable material to replace ivory. Plastic's first use-case was pool.
When someone posts to this forum, asking about ivory, it needs to be politely dismissed. We need to talk about other materials that are of equal or higher quality both in terms of aesthetics and strength and there are plenty. We need to look at it as an opportunity to show we're the good guys and we're not going to contribute to serious problems outside our industry.
I don't own any ivory nor will I ever own a cue with ivory. To me, a cue is sports equipment, not art. I know many here feel otherwise but I think a great deal has been done in the cue industry that doesn't include ivory. If you want people to support pool, you should respect the people outside of pool looking for our support. We should be a part of the solution and support discussions about alternative products whenever possible.
