Well, here we go ! Never before seen onepocket from 17 years ago!!! These matches are brought to you by sappo from the onepocket.org site. He shipped the VHS tapes to me and I converted them over to be able to upload to Vimeo. Since youtube has a 15 min restriction (unless you get lucky and the remove it), I uploaded to Vimeo so they can be shown in their entirety. These VHS tapes were from the owner of the Billiard Playground, who taped some of the matches when the US Open was held there, in Kalamazoo, MI.

For some unknown reason, there is no audio on the tapes. As far as the quality, keep in mind these were taken with 17-20 year old technology as far as camcorders, plus you got the tape degradation from 17 years of sitting around, the conversion from tape to digital format and the uploading to Vimeo. Considering all of that, these matches are perfectly fine to get to watch some great onepocket from our players of almost 2 decades ago.

The tournament details: (thanks to Mark Griffin for the details, maybe more to come)
Aug 25-28th at Billiards Playground in Kalamazoo, MI.
Grady was the Tournament Director. A article mentions Ed Hall was the owner, but Matt Rosendahl was heavily involved.
$100 entry
39 player field
$10,200 in prize money
Billy Incardona was the winners bracket winner and came in 2nd to Joyner.
1st -Cliff Joyner $2,800
2nd -Billy Incardona ($2,000)
3rd -Willie Munson ($1,500)
4th -Grady Mathews ($1,000)
5-6th -Ritchie Richeson $500
5-6th -Cornbread Red $500
===========================================
All of the matches will be grouped together in a album on my Vimeo site. You can get to the album here

For our 4th match, we have a couple of guys that everyone knows. They've both been playing onepocket for decades and have played at the highest level. Both have also put out instructional tapes/dvd's on the game as well.

Grady has book and dvd's which you can get here

Billy has a DVD which you can find here

In this match, Billy puts the hammer down on Grady. When you watch Billy go thru some of these opponents, keep a eye out on how he's playing. He remembers that he played well in this tournament, and I know from watching a bit of the semi's and the finals, both with Cliff Joyner, there is some fantastic onepocket being played. You guys that appreciate great onepocket are going to enjoy these. I haven't' had a chance to even watch these myself yet.. but I am thinking that Billy is playing some kick-ass onepocket, as the scores are reflecting that too.

if you have trouble with the video below, just click the link above to the album that has all the videos in them.. you can then watch it directly from Vimeo.

It don't get much better than that first game. There were some mistakes but that is one of the best games of one hole i've ever seen. Thanks.

I think I'll actually sit down and watch one of these matches myself:smile:

There's going to be some more good stuff coming.

If you don't stop posting these my wife is going to find you and give you a smack down :)

Really though, these are great. I love the old stuff from this time frame myself. And I don't mind no commentary at all. I'd rather hear the pool balls room noise etc, but no audio really isn't so bad for a pool match. Thanks again.

Once again, to anybody reading that first game of the Cardona Mathews match is phenominal.

I've never enjoyed a pool game without sound but watching the first game of Grady vs Billy was the most enjoyable game I've watched on video in 2011.

Holy crap!! Thank you thank you!!

But this can't be right...I see people smoking inside.

I hate when someone uses that word (smoking) in a thread, it's like a death sentence to the thread. I'm sure your comment was a innocent one, but unfortunately that means squat to the preachers and full time sh1t stirrers. Just the mere mention of the word makes people forget about all the great onepocket being played or about that these tapes have never been seen by the general public.

But before anyone starts trembling from the excitement of another smoking thread, there's no reason to hijack this one, please use the other 1,569 that already exist.

Here... here's a few brand new ones that have breaking news in them. They're already primed and ready to go...great addition to your weekend activities.

ABP has boycotted any tournament that will not allow the players to smoke

Recent study suggests smoking can add 5-8 mph to your break!

F.Lee Bailey has found a loophole in the No Smoking law, 7 states have plans already in the work to repeal it, with many more to follow

I just got a chance to watch the first game, as I was curious because of a few comments on it being the best game they've ever seen and best game of 2011.

I know everyone has different opinions on what a great game is, but for me, it was a average game. Grady scratched at least once, that was preventable. Grady sold out at least once, badly. Billy sold out once, badly.. instead of coming under the ball attempting a bank, he went above it and left a straight in shot for Grady. Grady took a intentional scratch, but didn't make Billy have to do anything special to get out of it.

And the balls that did get ran, were basic. I'm in no way suggesting that it was a bad game, just that it was a average game.

Billy made a great 3 railer to end the game.

Once I get a chance to watch more of these.. I'll put up a list of which games I like the best, that I feel are candidates for matches of the year or the tournament. I saw some pieces of some of the games, and they looked like they might be a shoe in for that list already:smile:

Disclaimer: I am a onepocket fanatic and have watched thousands of games by top players.. so my criteria might be a bit higher then most, as far as impressing me.
