Our contest layout was drawn from the last game of this match: 2008 Mosconi Cup Day 2 Match 4 Mika Immonen Vs Earl Strickland. In this game Earl broke and played a push out. Mika banked the 1 ball and ran out this tough layout. Later he was award the Most Valuable Player for Mosconi Cup 2008 (Fast-Forward the video below to 1:25)

Congratulations to our winners for making some great runs - I realize the layout was pretty tough but several people have mastered it! If you like the contest, please study the videos, try the layout yourself to compare, show it to friends, share comments and let us know how we can make it even more fun for every one. Our goal is to help people improve their skills and play better.

Thanks to everyone for participating, please get your camera ready for our April contest later this week :)

I hope this is not too tough for people here. Give it your best shot and see how far you can go :)

i got to admit wei , its not an easy one.

Its even harder when you actually try to clear it. so many small tricky shots.
poting the 1 is HARD. On my slow cloth i have to use a pritty hard stroke, to be able to get the cb 3 rails down table, butplaying it hard, reduces the bankangle. If i increase the bankangle but cutting it more, im hitting the 7 ball.
If im using top so i can play it slower , but get the cb to role further, the cb's path goes STRAIGHT into the 2. (i had my cb at less then 1/4th" from the 2 , MANY MANY times)

Then there is the 2. TO low and going uptable for position on the 3 is hard. The 5 is in the way for a natural angle up and and down, and to many roadblockers for a 3 rail position. To high and the middle pocket is in the way for natural 1rail position on the 3, if you touch the cussion to high above the pocket, the 5 is in the way..

After potting the 3, you have only 1 diamond of space to get the cb close to the cussion in between the 6 and the middlepocket. I scratched several times. In between the middle poket and the 7 is not an safe option, as then the angle on the 5 makes the pot very hard and the scratch in the other middel pocket a real dangour.

6-7 are easy shots. I did make it to the 7ball twice, but then didnt draw the cb enough to get a natural angle on the 8 to go to the 9. I had to go 3 cussions, or one cusion and lots of inside, and i missed both shots.

This is a hard one :) but i got 2 hours tonight to run it. and i WONT rest untill ive done it :D

PS i would run this rack once or twice in 100 try's i think. To hard for me :D I can give at least 20 different reasons why my run stopped early. It looks hard, but believe me, it is HARDER.

Im curious to see who did this on the first try and in a tournament. Its probably one of the best players around, and i would guess a efren in good form or something, because not many would be able to do this. Im not a good player, but i'm not bad, and this is WAY over my league (wich means, i LIKE IT alot more then the easy runout competitions !! )

Try using straight low to come one rail off from the head rail; or low left to come one or two cushions off the head rail.

Doc

Just getting ready for work... I will give it a go tonight and post around 10pm. Looks like a challenge, the proper angle for the 2 will be tough.

I will also give it a try later on today.

Maybe the best solution is to bank it soft and stop the cueball in the 7, and accept whatever shot you get on the 2?

The way i see it, looks like the 5 goes past the 8 in the low right corner.

I did run it a couple of times and the only tough shot is banking the one with the right speed to get on the 2 then the run is somewhat easy if you can keep the right angle.

I only have a phone with a camera so didn't bothered recording it. If you say i can post a poor video shot with a phone camera then i will.

Is there a way to print a copy of the layout??

Click the pencil icon on the bottom long rail of the diagram...

This will take you into an edit mode and from there you can print it as a web page.

Black and white shows up okay, but if you can print it in color that would be better.

the one is hard.

The way it worked for me is:

you slightly stun it, to increase the angle, and use top to get the cb back to the lower half of the table. Hit the one fuller then normally and use outside english to spin the ball in the middle pocket. Its is very hard, but getting good shape on the two ball is even harder :)

The amount of stun, spin, and top have to be PERFECT, are the run will end soon.

Just a quick reminder this contest is going to end in 4 days. If you are going to play this weekend, remember to bring the camera with you!
