Viking quick release and 5/16x18 shaft

Hi all,

Just wondering if it's possible to change a shaft's insert from a 5/16x18 to fit a Viking quick release? Or maybe drill it a bit to fit the Viking quick release as they both use a 5/16x18 thread..

It is only .016 difference in size, works just fine. I usually bore to that size to fit as sometimes drill bits walk but should not be a problem to drill.

What do you think Viking does? They bore or drill the insert to .265 and then tap with 5/16 x 18.

Most people using 5/16 x 18 drill or bore to .250.
 
Well I said screw it. Drilled my 2 shafts an everything went smooth.
Just wanted to thank you guys for the tips.
