Vintage Bar Table Tutorial

ill tell ya, no one messed with matlock, surfer rod, or bobby hernandaz and liked the outcome.
every player knew about danny d, few knew about brooklyn butch, your friend jay.
he was scarier when mad then r.d. mathews in dallas texas(not a pool player). and no one alive or stayed alive ever said boo to him.

it was the little guys you worried about never the big hunks. such as little larry in dallas and houston. if you had any issue with him you got stabbed.

miz never was a gambler. he was a school teacher. most i ever saw him bet was 50 a game 9 ball. and that was rare.
some my say other but if he did it was rare.

We moved to Baton Rouge two weeks after school started when I was in the third grade

and I put a couple of guys in headlocks and squeezed
In the 3rd grade, The New kid in school was tested in our sand box. He was different and didn't want to wrestle I took on the role of bully and at our 10 minutes recess wanted to test him. He didn't want to participate, so he threw a headlock on me and held me until recess was over. Time after time I forced the contest until one day the girl that lived adjacent his family told me of his father beating him every night.
Well the realization that I was so out of line was an epiphany.
The never judge another until you have walked a mile in their shoes hit me in my head and heart.
I grew up significantly that day.
After that I tried to make amends.

I did on one occasion go hands on. Well the guy raised his hand to my wife when arguing. I immediately put him in a loose rear naked. Just controlling and not trying to choke him out. He then tried to thumb my eye. So I put a bite on the thumb and speaking around the thumb told him to knock it off or loose the thumb at the knuckle.
Okay thenrest of the story, well a snippet. I held him down until the police arrived 15 minutes later. The officer entered and the wife directed him to me atop the sand n*ger....(Grrrr still trigger Ed). All motionless and silent. I dismounted and told the officer what had happened and why. The other guy pled that I had hurt. Him thumb. No blood no foul was the verdict. That knuckle should still be reminding him. 🤷‍♂️
Edit: and oh yeah almost forgot. I was on probation not not allowed to leave Washington. In Modesto!
Definitely had to be on my best behavior. 🤷‍♂️
Well my adrenaline was up. I picked him up by the vest , took him up 2 steps and about 10 feet to a wall. Then let his feet touch the ground. He said gun, so I was forced to restrain him. Your Honor. Would have been My testimony. 🤷‍♂️
Grappling skills balanced with striking skills and uh don't forget running. (I had a respectable mile ). Make for a survival tool kit. Night navigation led to my 1 week survival 1st place finish.
Edit2: of course shooting skills can be brought to pool. There, I got back "on topic , first 😉
I did mention the 100 rounds at 100 yards test, right? 😉
Shooting under pressure is hard to replicate in practice.
Here's a good practice video.

Vintage bar table practice, back in the day when the table cost a quarter. 🤷‍♂️ Well $5 an hour was good money.
Target practice with just the cueball. The World's Greatest Billiards player Willie Hoppe only got one ball for a month, starting out.
So start over. Shrug.
Start with a lag.

The handy dandy 3 ball break pad makes a fine target. The left cueball is Lefty opener....not a bad lag. 🤷‍♂️ The right hand returns a target overlap win for 2 . 2-0 right, now reset the target and play them as the lay. 1 rail required but rails multiple adds to points. Oh what fun. Well for the easily enteredtrainedd.
Edit: and oh yeah, on the target is 3.
Seems I recall a target pool product in the "vintage" category. 😉
Edit for brag: 😉 My ring game name became Kickslikamule. Practice practice practice can be fun and educational too. Whew, back to the game....2 service zero.

Lefty's lag got a hanger and rights attempt to bump hard was a clean miss.

2-2 oh what fun. Better go now.
Race to 10 ought to do it. For morning fitness.

10-4 Lefty prevailing. Hmmm? 21 shall be the next time race to. 😉

Seems I am stuck in this thread. 😉
Morning fitness can be regimented And fun.
Learning is almost always fun for me.
A one hour work out is my morning goal.
I Am retired 😉 so time is available.
Colin's drill provides 16 shots for my obstacle course.
The first shot is a spot shot with whitey half a diamond behind the head spot. A simple task that's often perplexed first shot of the day. Hmmmm multiple misses provides a wake up call. Self to Self, " hay, what's going on?"
Well problem solution sometimes takes longer than others.
For sure Gotta have my mind Right is a Master key. 🤷‍♂️
Then comes the physical part. The form work done well becomes habit. A good habit hopefully.
The final shots of the drill has whitey half diamond behind the headspot with object balls half diamond off center and same off of back rail. Like this:

The 15 ball hanging scores double 😉 So at hill/hill. Lefty gets the honors on the final one ball.
The phenolic tipped break cue on the left is my prefered weapon for a center struck cut shot.
This practice has proofed for myself the importance of the trigger finger, which for me is the ring finger. The precision strike is monitored by watching the tip to ball interaction. So upon a miss I generally have a good clue as to, "what the ef was that?" 🤷‍♂️

Perhaps my Preaching thread would be more, uh appropriate. 🤷‍♂️ Oh well. The point is....
Points
Lines
Planes
Is aiming 101.

The balance point is ground zero.
Physical And Mental.
Feeling good about Who I was and what I was doing allowed my best performance under pressure. Well duh, I have a pressure valve. Kinda like tire pressures and race tracks. Uh oh Grampa is slipped differential. Rear wheel bearing is the discomfort (we not say pain 😉) the put me in coach attitude must be maintained.
Sitting the bench playing baseball was bitter sweet. Knowing that I would get the call when it was The bottom of the nine th and bases loaded , tied score. 2 out and the count 3 and 2. I wanted it. Well coach Ray Ellis called for it when I caught little league at 8 with his 2 sons 11 and 12 year old pitchers.
All about getting my mind right. The Physical diminish can be over come through Mental A Cue I titty. Acuity.
"Pay attention bo." Is a favorite Foghorn Leghorn quote. 😉
