Vintage Cervantes Custom Cue. Only 250.00, Shipped.

Vintage Rico Cervantes Cue.

Feel free to correct me or add information but Rico worked for Bob Meucci and Richard Helmstetter before building his own cues. Great piece of billiard history.

This is a budget buster. A full blown hand made custom cue for under 300 dollars. Doesn't get better than that.

Cue has that nice vintage appeal to it. Firm, clean, crisp hit. The joint is the same wood as the cue. For an older cue the finish appears to be in good condition. I don’t see any dings, gouges or chips.

I don’t want to take anything away from a great older cue but I want to be thorough with my description so I'm going to address this as if I were being ultra picky.

The butt has an ever so slight lift. Less than the thickness of a credit card. In my opinion its negligible. Even though the cue isn’t in need of a refinish I think if one wanted to go the extra mile it could address the slight lift. It did not affect playability at all. Single accompanying shaft, I was told the shaft was original, and with my cheap calipers it measures approximately 13mm at the base of the ferrule. The shaft doesn’t appear to have much wear on it but does show some roll, about the thickness of a credit card. I played with it and didn’t have any problems noticing, no one else did either.

Overall the cue played wonderfully and I think this would make a great bargain for anyone wanting a nice custom cue on a budget.

SOLD Shipped priority mail (insurance extra). Open to offers, trades and non-billiard related trades...no promises but I'll listen.

Disclaimer:

I have no problem with offers but if you make an offer make sure its an offer to buy. There’s nothing more annoying than someone asking me if I’ll take 800 only to disappear when I take their offer. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

Good Luck. Thanks.

These are neat old cues, and play really well. I have had several over the years. Yours is one of the more recent ones, I believe actually built by Marco Cervantes (note the mustache next to the "Ricco" name).

From The Blue Book of Pool Cues, 3rd Edition:
"RICCO CUSTOM CUES
Maker of pool cues from 1967 to 1995, primarily in Tampa, Florida, currently in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
Rigoberto "Ricco" Cervantes immigrated to the United States from Mexico at the age of eighteen. His interest in billiards led to a job at National Tournament Cues in Chicago. He was introduced to cuemaking by Richard Helmstetter. Ricco worked with other cuemakers, such as Wayne Gunn and Craig Peterson, who have had an influence on his work. He worked at making cues from 1967 to 1969, and then moved to Macon, Georgia and continued to work for National until 1971. From 1971 to 1973, he worked for Gandy Billiards.
Ricco eventually returned to Chicago to continue his original tool and die career. From 1973 to 1984 he made cues part time out of his home. After a five-year return to his home country, Mexico, he moved to Tampa in 1989, where he worked full time making cues for Robertson Billiards until 1993. Ricco then made cues part time in a small wood shop behind Baker´s Billiards (the oldest pool hall in Florida) in Tampa, until his retirement in 1995.
In 2002, Ricco spent one year living in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, teaching his son, Marco Cervantes, how to make cues. Marco continues the family tradition to this day. Ricco has returned to Mexico.
Ricco made more than 100 cues per year, entirely by hand, in his one man-shop in Tampa, Florida. Ivory points, precious metals and stones, and rare coins were commonly featured on high end Ricco cues. All Ricco cues are easily identifiable by the "Ricco" logo which appears on the butt caps. Today, Marco Cervantes marks the cues with "Ricco Cues" with a small mustache. He is building about a dozen cues per year, part time, while working full time as a facility manager for a large consulting firm."

Joe -- A mustache doesn't necessarily mean it was built by Marco. My Ricco cue was built by Rigoberto in 1995. The signature/logo is "Ricco" followed by a mustache -- like the cue offered here but without the "Cues by" portion of the signature/logo.

Ahhhhh....thanks for clearing that up. I never have been very good with vintage cues...either way, whether Ricco or Marco built the cue, this is a really sweet deal for someone.

Thanks for the info guys. I have another shot of the opposite side of the signature. Every Rico I've seen had two C's (Ricco) but this one only has the one. I'm told that this is quite uncommon.

I think 200 or so bucks for any kind of a custom cue is a great deal. Of course I'll entertain offers.

I also want to add that I wouldn't mind finding some kind of a SP or other low end production cue I can take to the bar if someone is looking to make a partial trade. I'm more than open to what's out there. Ready to deal.
