Cuebuddy,

Thanks for sharing, I always enjoy looking through billiard items.

I'm glad to see someone else is posting some "eye candy". I have been going through some boxes of my collection and posting some pics. I posted a room picture similar to this one a few days back.

Is that real?,if so where and when?

The images were drawn for a daily or weekly news paper in 1886. This image is titled Le Salon du Grand Cafe Parisien. In another thread I've posted a similar image from another cafe. I believe they are real. I have other images showing very elaborate rooms from that time. At one point in time for the upper class the billiard room was a status symbol. The bigger and more elaborate the room the better. I can recall reading that Billiards was the number one reported sport in the daily and weekly news papers for many years. Here's another room from a print in the 1800's.

Here's a pic of tables at the Biltmore Estate in Ashville. They probably date back to the 1890's. I've been there and seen them. They're beauties.

I don't remember buying the two prints of the cafe.I will be taking copies of them before having them framed, I'll be in touch. The lights are amazing, I can't imagine what they must weigh.

After looking at your print again, I think you have quite the find. A few things that I noticed in it. I mentioned before, it is rare to see a cat instead of a dog under the table. Also I guess the theme of the print has many meanings. On the surface it seems to be a very friendly social gathering. If you look closely the child is running towards the seated lady. It looks like the child will be letting everyone know that the seated lady is stealing from the lady that's leaning on the table. With the clergyman being present I wonder if there are some religious implications.

I also like the table. It looks to be a billiard table but with the ball catchers on the sides, it must have holes in the bed for pockets. I've got some catchers, I'll post them later today if I get a chance.

GReath, i hadn't see the woman stealing either.
ITs weird that the catchers seem to have red pea's instead of balls..
One thing i noticed whas the white round chalk on the table.

Perhaps the cat and child were playing with the items under the table. I am not certain if I have a round piece, but I do have square pieces.

ot: but just to correct, the woman is not stealing :p it just looks like on the picture, both her hands are out of the pocket.
