Visit to Bobby Hunter Shop in Chicago

Guerra Cues

I build one cue at a time

Hello,
Just came back from Chicago on business and while there I had the opportunity to visit and play a little bit with Bobby Hunter. He was kind enough to let me go to his shop. As all know BH has his shop with Joe Gold that was also working on some really nice cues.
Here are some pictures:

The only time Bobby Hunter racked for me - the first game! He really kicked my butt! Learned a lot and got lots of advice:

Put two smart guys together and give them all that top notch equipment and some pretty fine cues just might come out of there.

They need to find a new name though. I got it. "Joe Bob's" cues. Just a couple of pool rednecks. :winknudge:

I'm glad that you posted this information and the pictures. I heard a rumor that they were working in the same shop, but after that I heard that Joe Gold was taking a vacation from making cues. When you hear different stories it's hard to determine what's really going on. This post clears up any confusion.

You could use that mill for pool cues or engine blocks...LOLz

Joe Gold had a ton of cues in process and he was there as well. Nice guy to talk to :)

A pool table, big screen tv, pinball game, and full size Galaga all in the same room.

Awesome.

Tony, that's a pretty interesting pool table in the shop. Did he say what make it is? If not, maybe Jay knows.

Finding the 'new name' may be their most difficult task before em. They'll probably stay away from using their names for now, just keep with Cogniscenti, who knows tho. Joey always did like it fast and loose, Bobby liked it smooth and calm with a allot of personal control, I find this NV/Chicago relationship very interesting. The cues coming out will have a combination of talents that may set the new bar on quality performance & looks. I could be wrong, but cuemakers with this much play talent, and cue making talent coming together, is something NEW, these guys want change, you both got it now. I look forward to stopping by the shop next time I visit family in Chi Town to see what your doing.

Not sure. What you see in that table was when Bob was doing his signature ring work. That thing works like robot

I'm not sure I understand. In other words, are you saying he may have custom made, e.g. the side panels on a stock pool table? Thanks~ Doc

Wow, very interesting!
Have you other pictures?

A curiosity: are hunter cues "short" like the cognoscenti or not?

I don't believe his cues are made shorter. He is an excellent cue maker. I have had my Bobby Hunter for 10 years now, and knew when I picked it up that I would never need to play with anything different since then, and I haven't. :)

Here's a picture of early cue design of his, the cue stick I own. It is cocobolo with ivory stars and birds eye maple points.

I don't know, but it looks like an antique Brunswick.

Hi Tina,
I know you... Tina has an awesome Hunter that she swears by.
I played against her in Vegas on a Scotch Doubles team and Tina is the nicest girl (very pretty too). BTW Tina is a hell of a player. One of my favorite girls that I like to watch play.
BH cocobolo cues are probably his best hitting cues.

That must have been an interesting visit. I wish that I could think far enough ahead to go visit a cue builder when I go to their cities, but I never think about it until it's too late.

If this shop's new cues play anything like the Cognoscenti cues that I have, they will be very popular. I am amazed at the way they play, and if it wasn't for the fact that I can't seem to keep my cues from getting knocked around, or my cases tipped over, dropped, I would make one of them my everyday player. I don't think there's a cue out there that plays better than these Cognoscenti cues. The problem is that they are too nice and I couldn't stand it if I allowed them to get nicked up.

Are their new cues just like the old ones?

Are they combining their talents or building cues separately under the Bobby Hunter & Cognoscenti name?

Do they have a new logo?

Thanks
Ted
