A little while back someone posted some pics of Ultimate Billiards in Fort Pierce, FL. With a little time on my hands I thought I'd take a week or so and see if it 'played' as good as it looked.
I gave the room a call and Bill, the owner/manager, hooked me up with a room (with a nice discount) at the Marriott about a mile and a half from the room. The next day I hopped a plane and found my way to the room. 10 minutes after walking through the door I was having a cup of coffee, chatting with Bill, and feeling like I was sitting in my long time 'home' room.
Also didn't take long to see that the room was well thought out. About a dozen Diamonds, 9 GC 4's, a handful of Diamond Smart tables, a heated billiard table and a monster 6x12 Russian Pyramid table… all well maintained, generously spaced out and in great shape. No bright lights but well lit playing areas and the whole joint is 'whistle clean'. Music is background level, far from intrusive!
There's also a comfortable bar serving beer and wine and very reasonably priced food… nothing fancy but a great selection and good!
I was only there a week or so, but from what I saw there's decent action and sociable play to be had with one pocket, 9/10 ball and even some straight pool.
All in all, based on what I saw, this is a user friendly room with an old school feel and a great staff that has no problem going the extra mile. I'll definitely be heading back sooner than later.
