Visiting Milwaukee Wi

Not a local, but did a bit of research (since you're in the heart of pool country)

Looks like:
If Racine isn't too far (30 miles?)
Break & Run Billiards at: 2037 Lathrop Ave, Racine, WI 53405

Seem to rate pretty high in both Google and Yelp, and pics appear like the place is nice and clean.

(Are you going to stop by the Schon shop while there?)

Would love to visit Schon if I can make it during hours they are open. Probably will just have evenings available though.

I have a special fondness for Romines High Pockets....50 tables...lots of events.

I see on their website they have a 3 cushion tournament. Never played before but that might be fun!

Hey protocol. I live in Milwaukee. I shoot leagues at romines twice a week. Not the greatest pool hall in the world. Friday night 9 ball tourney. The 2 halls I would recommend would be:
Cue club of wi- about 20 min from Milwaukee in Waukesha
Carom Room- farther drive, about 50 min from Milwaukee but best pool hall in Wisconsin

Thanks a bunch Kozzy. I will actually be staying in Waukesha so I will definitely check out cue club. Seems I've heard of the Carom room before so can't wait to check all these places out. Thanks

If you're looking for tournaments or people to play and are on Facebook check out the Wisconsin Pool Players Society group, good place to go for any Wisco pool stuff, very active.

If you find yourself over by the Madison area places to check out would be Brass Ring in Madison, The Rock in Sun Prairie, and The Ball Room in Portage.

If you get some time and can swing by Schon then do it (and get tacos from the food truck out front, they're good). If you're here a while and can get away during the week Jacoby is a good visit too even though it's a bit of a drive.

It will be bitter-sweet if I revisit Romine's.
Only Willie Munson is left....for me.

Terry Romine and The Polish Prince are no longer with us.
...and Boston Shorty,,,,I always played some 3-C when he was
around....so I could ask him questions....last time there, I had a shot I was about even
money on (too much pool/snooker thinking in my game).....said..."Larry, I just know I play
this shot wrong....how do you play it?"....Larry says, in that raspy voice "Rail first."...
....now I'm like seven to one favorite to make it.

Larry Liscotti used to call Boston Shorty 'Shortstop'...'Hey Shortstop...gonna get you
three women tonight."....Shorty would say "You tryin' to kill me?"

On the other hand....if I went there again...I might meet Fenwick

Beware of Cue Club, they have 9' Olhausen tables. Varsity Club is in Oshkosh which has all Diamonds, 7' & 9', its a legit pool hall, nice equipment. Fond Du Lac probably has the highest concentration of Diamonds in the state but most are 7' bar tables.

Is Romines getting players for their Friday 9 ball? I randomly call to find out what the turnout has been like, I dont want to make the hour drive to find out theres only 3 people entered. Would love to go down there and compete on the Gold Crowns, Pro-8's for the 9 ball tournament, correct??

Romines 9 ball tourneys have become weaker and weaker over the last 15 years. You used to have to get there an hour plus early just to have a spot.

Protocol, if you are interested in a money game, I know a few people who would be willing. Let me know.

Willie Munson still plays at Romines all the time. He is basically there every time I show up at Romines. Still a solid shot.

Nice quick stories PT. I only got a chance to meet Willie once and I'm gonna try to get out there one more time this summer. I had a very pleasant experience with him and he gave me an awesome compliment that to this very second I cherish!

It's amazing when a great player gives you a compliment that you know he/she means! I know I played a little above myself that night but it was pretty cool leaving him bad and making him have to think his way out of it!

The one thing that sticks out when I played Willie some 1smack was his ability to leave the cue ball on the rail frozen from anywhere/anytime as many times as he did! He was easy 9/10 EVERY time!

We both had a lot of strong runs. I got him 8 and out on a game and when Willie was racking the waitress came over and asked if we were good. I said yeah we are good hun! She goes is Willie beaten on us? I said (smiling) yeah I'm just an average player! He quickly turned around at me and said"you ain't no average player boy"!

That's was the nicest compliment I've ever gotten! And for it to come from him,,,,, priceless!

Eli,
