VNEA rack your own question

The VNEA league I play in has several locations where the table and ball conditions are just abysmal. The cloth is filthy and old and almost feels sticky like several drinks have spilled on it. The balls are dirty and all beat up.

Trying to rack and break on these tables is a nightmare. You have to find the pit where the head ball wants to roll into and move the rest of the rack to that point. Then pray that none of the other balls want to roll off from that position. It seems absolutely impossible to make a ball on the break if you can't get the balls to touch. The table speed is just too slow to allow the drop in impact force from gaps to get the balls moving enough to find a pocket.

Many games I have spent 5 or 6 minutes just trying to make sure that at least the first three head balls are touching. I can get a ball to drop on the break maybe 35% of the time if I can do get them touching. It's so hard to make a ball in these conditions that if you were playing a tie breaker game for a round, you might as well to tell your opponent to go ahead and break. The break is a handicap under these conditions.

I was thinking maybe I would try to bring my magic rack in and use it when I rack my own. I know it doesn't fix all the issues with the table conditions, but at least I wouldn't struggle trying to get a decent rack.

So, has anyone ever tried this? I don't think there are any rules in VNEA about having to use a specific rack. The only issues I can think of is the opponent may object or ask to use it for all the match games (which I would be ok with).

First use the cueball to iron the cloth. Second use a shaft to find out which balls are smaller than the others and rack them to the outside perimeter.

When the balls are different sizes there is no way to get them touching with any rack. Ironing the cloth will keep all but the headball from rolling out.

You'd have to check with Rich about it.

In melodee music we would not allow the magic rack at this time.

I see I've got you nervous about the last two weeks of league, feeling me breathing down your neck.

I had to play on some pretty beat barboxes in VNEA.
All you can do is bring the magic rack, ask the person in charge,
and if they okay it, ask the opponent too.

It absolutely gives the breaker an advantage over someone who doesn't use it,
so to be fair, it really should be used in 100% of the matches.
If you use it and your opponent doesn't, it's borderline cheating.
Ideally it'd be used throughout the night by every player and it becomes a tradition
to just always use a magic rack. Fighting the head spot is a drag for everyone.

I make a 2 sided rack my team uses for VNEA. Similar to the True rack, but made out of wood(Walnut/Cherry). It works great because it adjusts to the balls instead of the balls conforming to a fixed rack. It doesn't matter how bad the balls are, we always get a tight rack.

Yeah Jeff our home table is one of the worst ones. When we get down to crunch time I definitely start sweating the break. When we play next week, it will be at your spot so I won't have to worry as much.

I have a decent lead on you with only 2 weeks left. Unless I completely nose dive, I should be able to hold you and Darin off. Calvin actually has me by a little bit, and since he is on my team, I can't do anything about it. Our match next week should be interesting.

Personally, I don't see where the use of a Magic Rack would be a problem if you allow your opponents to use it too.

Wiley, nice rack and it would fold and fit in a case pocket. If you don't mind, I would like the dimensions so I can make one.

Each side is 11 7/8 x 1 3/4 x 5/8. Yes, it fits nicely in the pocket. Make sure you use aged wood.
I can make one for $30 if you don't want to take the time to make it.
