Want a new Break/Break Jump cue

Kinda looking for a new break or break-jump cue. Currently using a custom j/b with one of the newer break tips installed, but the nothing special about the shaft taper, pretty much a playing cue with a hard tip. Been playing a little more 9 ball lately and my break is horribly inconsistent. I know there is no replacement for practice, but I have to think a dedicated purpose built cue might show some level of improvement. What do I try??

My 2 cents get a dedicated break cue and a dedicate jump cue if you can afford it. A lot depends on your budget, but just personally the best break cues I have used have been Mezz break cues. I prefer the Power Break II personally. They are pretty pricey, but not as pricey as the BK Rush. My break cue is a Joss Thor Hammer, and while I don't think I get as much power or action as I do when I break with my buddy's Mezz it has been very good to me and I seem to be able to control the cue ball much better off the break with it.

I second the comment about mezz break cues - good stuff. If you get the PBII it has a shorter butt so can be good for medium/long range jumps. Also check out the break cue from becue.

It’s all about finding what works best for you.

I had a Gilbert jump/break and it was a great cue but I missed a lot of jumps with it. It was great for long jumps, but if things were tight I had trouble getting it up and over.

Switched to a Mezz Kai and a Jacoby jumper. Jump so much better with a dedicated jumper! My break seemed better too.

Next I got an OB break cue ( one of their limited ones they’ve offered recently). I found a better feel and a harder hit for my effort with their Speed Break shaft. It wasn’t a huge difference, but it was there. I sold the Mezz and have been super happy with my OB breaker. It has a unique butt taper, kind of a barrel taper, that feels nice when breaking. It’s a very Break specific cue which I like.

I am interested in trying a jump cue with an extension, might have to give an OB Lift Pro a try one of these days.

My advice is definitely go with a dedicated break cue and dedicated jump cue. It’s worth it! You have to find what works best for you after that.

What he said below.

I have an original design OB Break cue and a Lomax jump cue.
I have had many J/B cues and most do one or the other pretty good but not both.
