Do I have to replace the rails to get smaller pockets or is there some other way. I am going to get the table refelted and there are a couple locol people here that I am going to ask to do it and make the pockets smaller. I just want to have some idea as to how that is done. Here is a picture of the table and the specs are in the thread. Currently the pockets are 5 inches. Thank you in advance for your help and expert opinions.

As I am sure someone will dispute me......most typically it has been a matter of adding "facings" to the end of the rail. A facing is an Approximately 1/8th thick piece of rubber covering the end of the rubber and the end of the wooden rail. Should be quick, easy and relatively cheap. Stacking facings narrows the pocket opening

Do you want your pockets to stay that tight? If you want it just for you, Muellers has something that you can put in to make them smaller. When you have friends over you can open them back up and everybody can have fun.

I won't dispute you, just add to it... The easy and cheap way is adding facings but the most effective and costly way is extending the subrail. Extending the subrail takes a lot of skill and patience. It also requires the table owner to spring for new cushions because they are cut oversize with respect to your subrail extension. If you want your table to pocket balls similar to a Diamond, find an experienced mechanic and extend the sub rail. If you just want smaller pocket add facings.

I do want the pockets to be smaller and permanent. There is a really good guy here in Phoenix that does it all and he is supposed to be really good. I have not talked to him yet and I just want to have an idea of what my options are before I talk to him. We are going to be refelting the table at the same time with 860. I like the idea of the subrail extentions and wouldn't mind getting some new rails anyways. If you are going to do it, do it good!

I am sure prices are different all over but what would be a ballpark figure for the extentions?

there are these rubber pocket shims you can buy that are on this spring clip to turn normal tables into triple shim.. i just looked on google for like 2 minutes and i couldn't find any info on them but i know they exist. they kind of look like big alligator clips only they have 1/2 inch thick rubber that is cut to look like a pocket. it actually works really well in emulating a triple shim table without having to pay lots of money for them to shim it

Thats what i was saying.

but he said he wanted it permanent so that wouldn't work for him. I just mentioned it as an option.

Do you know Jimmy Mendoza, he lives in your area, or Steve Glen? Who are you thinking about asking to work on your table? Steve's nbr is 623-266-7674, he can give you Jimmy's nbr.
