I would like to at least try my hand at some Tournaments (8-ball and 9-ball). I have never played in a league.

Is it possible to enter tournaments without a rating or have played in a league?

Thank you

Sure you can. There are lots of bars and pool rooms that run weekly tournaments for anyone who can pay the entry fee.

Under our league, if you are willing to pay the sanction fee they'll let you play some tournaments with a mid-level handicap. Others, you need a minimum number of weeks.

Leagues

Leagues are one of the best ways to help your game. On top of that. there are many very nice people who play in the Leagues. Once you start up making friendships. You can always find a game with those people. All this adds up to taking your game to the next level.
When you play tournaments it seems like everyone is out for themselves. There is pressure there which will help you learn to control those feeling inside you but if you lose. Who cares, you are only hurting yourself.
On the other hand. The pressure in the Leagues is totally a different type of pressure. Now, not only are you playing for yourself but you are playing for your Team & friends. Makes a difference. It is good to experience both type of situations. I enjoy the Leagues so much more b/c of the friendships.
Give it a try and let us know how things turn out for you.

sure you can! I'd only suddest finding out the rules BEFORE you start. Many times I have played tourneys and they say "Texas Express" but all of the sudden you find they "tweaked" the rules to their liking......which is fine, but it's nice to know before you get a bad call..

good luck!
