I've got an old Franklin Southwest that I am changing the wrap on. It had leather and I am thinking of changing to cork. How does it compare with leather or linen?
Please let me know what you think
Thanks

cork is the best.hard to find the good looking cork and hard to get a local to install it though.

What is it that you are looking for in a wrap? What made you decide to look into cork?

Now that the questions are out of the way, cork, comes in different types of grades. Whomever you chose to install it, needs to know what the best type is for cues or a reputable supplier, and then they must know how to properly install it. If installed properly, it will hold up for an extremely long time.

Cost more than linen and sometimes less than leather.

cork has a real nice feel. It won't get slippery like some leather/pleather and looks cooler than Irish IMO. Another good thing is if your hands sweat a bunch like mine, cork seems to "weather" better, and get a nice patina over time.

If you find a good installer, let me know, I have a Schon I'd like to put it on.

I realy like them, and McDermott does them flawlessly.

Talk to Jack Madden, I had him rewrap a Hurricane of mine with cork and it's the nutz you have to friggin hunt like Leonard Nemoy on " In Search Of Sasquatch" to find the seam

Thanks Jake --- glad you like it.

I love a cork wrap above all others. I have had two installed and both were flawless. One by Paul Drexler and the most recent by Jack Madden.
You won't go wrong with either guy. Cork is my favorite, and I have had all types of wraps!

Any pictures please

Any chance we could see some pictures of these fore mentioned cork wraps. I too have been considering a cork wrap and would like to see how they look on some of the cues.

Thanks

JW Petree did mine and it's excellent. I got a plain cork wrap, not the black matrix stuff that contains neoprene. Cork does not look very nice in my opinion but nothing else comes close to the feeling, I absolutely love it. It gets dirty pretty easily but cleans OK with a damp rag. I have no idea how durable it is, I'd assume "not very" compared to linen or leather but I guess it will hold up some years. I hear Paul Drexler also does a mean cork wrap.

Guido Olandi does a great cork wrap.
I have a plain PauFerro cue by Tim Padgett that has a cork wrap. Tim learned from Bert Schager to do cork wraps and SChrager learned from Harvey Martin. The cork wrap is outstanding. The problem with cork is the pure cork has zero impact resistance. The main reason I went with cork is the texture and feel.
