Hello Craftsman,

I'm interested in having a cue made for my girlfriend. I'm looking for something very basic, no points, inlays or ring work. The forearm, handle (if wrapless) and butt sleeve should be something burled or curly, the more highly figured the better. Specific choice of wood(s) is up to you, but the important thing is that it's stained GREY (medium-dark). The other important feature is a black butt cap. Type of joint is up to you, but she prefers something that requires 4 turns or less to assemble/disassemble. The shaft should be 12.6 mm. The overall weight around 19 oz (tapped for standard 1/2-13 weight bolt). My budget is in the $200 neighborhood.
Offers, referrals, suggestions welcomed.

Thanks,

Thanks,

First of all since you want to stain the wood I would stay away from the burls as that would, in my opinion, ruin it...lol.

Also, I would think that the cue you are asking about would would start out at about $400-600 by most makers, especially since your asking for highly figured pieces. I know you can get a Joss plane jane for close to that so that might be a possibility to look at. I hope this helps.

Viking F-93 is a charcoal gray stained bidseye maple with a black buttcap and joint, retails for $205 so you should be able to get it at any internet site for 20% off or so.

As far as a custom maybe talk to that Rat guy who posts here, his cues start around $200 but I have no idea if he customizes them or not.

Nice price and nice cues.

I have a buddy of mine that bought one of them Rat cues.

They look better in person. My wife should do his photo work!

The play better than the look!

RAT Cues are great playing, well made, and a great value. I have a RAT 3 and I love it. I use it for league nights and I always get compliments on it.

i don't know Rat personaly but from what i hear, his rep. stands well on it's own merit. he would be a good choice.

OK, how much do I owe everyone for saying all of this? Just let me know where to send the checks. :o
