I'm looking for a 4x8 leather or synthetic leather case. I prefer black with grey or white accents and would like to have it customized with my name on it. Any suggestions who makes great cases? I know of a few top case makers, but want to hear some other names and websites.

Thanks,
Zim

Zim,
I have had Justis cases and just had a custom Murnak case made. If I were you, I would call Jim Murnak and talk to him about what you want. He is a great person to deal with. The cases are extremely reasonable, especially if you only want your name carved or minimal tooling. Here is his website. Look through his vintage and standard lines. Many of the examples have prices for what that case costs. Joe

If you are looking to purchase a custom made case, and are willing to pay the money, there is no doubt go with a Murnak case. As Jim is a great guy to deal with and will make the case to your specifications.

Those designs leave a lot to be desired, but his skill and craftsmanship appear to be exceptional.

Yeah, I'll send him the drawings, and let him carve the leather and construct the case, but I'm not getting fish and stuff on a cue case. I just haven't seen better tooling anywhere. I'm guessing he will want quite a bit for one though, as that fly rod case is almost $2k, BUT LOOK AT THE DETAIL!

Hey Sphinx.. here is a thought... why dont you get in contact with a case maker like Jim Murnak, or Jack Justis, and have them send you the leather that they use for the outside of the case, and you can send it to that guy to tool it for you... and do all the artwork of whatever and then you can send it back to whoever gave it to you and have them build the final product.. that way you will have a case with a proven history of quality..
i dont see why they wouldnt do that for you.. especially if you put a deposite on something...

JJ and JM are artists. They do their thing, and this guy does his. There's nothing secret or out of the ordinary inside a cue case, just some dividers. I'm sure that if I contact this person, I will have lengthy discussions on execution to make sure it is something feasible for him, but past that I would rather have a one of a kind in total. JJ an JM may take the leather tooled from someone else, and turn it into one of their cases, but it wouldn't be as unique in my mind. I'm not knocking JJ or JM either, I think they are both fantastic.

In fact, since looking into the artistry of leather working, I am half inclined to order some bark-tanned leather and see what I can come up with myself. It never hurts to have an excuse to buy more TOOLS! Who knows, maybe some day you'll be plugging my cases?!?!:D
