Alex's Qs are not collectable, any more than one of mine. IF IT'S STRAIGHT, it's probably worth 1/2 of what it was, when it was new. I'd guess about $75-$100...JER

Alex Brick would charge at least 350.00 to 400.00 for this cue, so used it looks like 250.00 would be a pretty good deal. I don't remember anyone saying or asking about the collectability of this cue, and of course it's not collectable.

You can start today, and collect them right away :D

That cue is certainly worth more than $75/100. The layout of design is well executed, I'm looking at a segmented shaft possibly Predator, and there is a leather wrap. New, that cue should be in the $500/600 range.

Clean the wrap, clean the shaft, re-polish the finish and you've got a $300/400 player, easy. Collectible? well maybe not yet.

I only mentioned collectability, in an effort to educate the poster. If a cemakers work is deemed collectable, then his work will probably increase in value, even though used. Players interested in buying used Qs, are interested in BARGAIN priced Qs. If you show a buyer this Q & a new $250 cue, he will probably pick the new one. In no way am I demeaning Alex's work, but quite frankly, I doubt that anyony in my area, has any idea of who he is. Therefore this Q would have difficulty selling used, for $100 in my shop...JER

If you pay attention to the shaft, perhaps you will noticed the shaft looks quite similar to a pred 314. This cue got also a leather wrap, that's more expensive than those irish linen wrap. The rings are nicely done. This cue is way more valued than what you think it is. As a cuemaker, you should have know better. I wouldn't have any problem paying $200 for this cue and still got a bargain.

And as you can see, there are more peoples who will back this up:

????????????

Alex Brick makes cues with great playability an he has a following. He is known for his great sterling ring work an his high dollar ebony an ivory cues. He makes very few cues yearly an some are in the 2 to 3 thousand dollar range. If someone thinks cues like this one is in the $100.00 range I will personall take a large truck load. I would put this cue used in great condition in the 350 to 400 range. Nice cue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew about Alex Brick cues when I first joined AZ Billiards, and there are several members that play with them, as well as some fairly well know members that have several of them. Alex is also a champion level pool player. I didn't hear of Blackheart cues until I met your son at the Guitar Center here in Denver not too long ago. I sent you a very complimentary email and didn't get a response, and I did feel ignored which is fine. I am a collector, I own about 140-nice cues, last night I quit counting when I got to 40-cases, all nice high end cases, and some are very collectable. I bought an Alex Brick / Davis blank conversion, lace wood with Zebra wood points because I liked they way it looked, and I plan on getting a sneaky from Masonh who works in his shop. There are some of us out here that have a passion for cues, I play on 4-teams, practice whenever I can, and I support my local cue builder. There are so many people curious about what cue I am playing with, or what I think about their cue or the value of a cue, that it is getting hard to practice.

I would never insult a cue builder for any reason publicly regardless of the situation, and I would never value one of your cues at 75-bucks, regardless of the my design preference. The shaft is worth that much, and a friend of mine sold a similar Alex Brick cue on AZB for $400.00 that was a little nicer because it was made of Brazilian rosewood.

I reread all of my posts & I can't find a place where I insulted Alex. I constantly have people bringing me cues, that they think are valueable & I tell them the same thing. A none colletable cue is worth about 1/2 of what it was, when new. If I have under estimated the new price of this Q, then that is my error. This Q has some issues. Yes, it has a leather wrap, but it looks as though it has excessive wear in the middle & needs replacing. There are numerous dents in the butt sleeve...in other words it is well used & sold as is, probably is a good hitter. As I said, Alex's name is not known in my area & I have never seen or played with one. This is not an attack on the Qmaker, but an appraisal of what I think I could sell this used Q for, from my shop...JER

THAT CUE CAN'T BE MORE THAN 4 YEARS OLD... I WOULD GUESS NEWER.

ALEX USED TO CHARGE $350 FOR A CUE LIKE THAT WITH 1 SHAFT. HIS PRICES HAVE GONE UP AND HIS PIN AND FINISH IS MUCH IMPROVED.

EASILY A $500+ NEW IF IT HAS 2 SHAFTS. USED VALUE WILL DEPEND ON THE BUYER

Once upon a time G. SZAMS, BUSHKA'S, MARTIN'S, etc. were not "deemed" collectable......;) In addition, MANY of ALEX'S cues are in "collections" (whatever that means) as I type.

FWIW this cue will retail at 3 to 5hun.

all i can do is laugh at this comment.as most people here know i work for Alex and he makes excellent cues.playability is as good as any cue out there.do you honestly think this cue is worth $75 or are you just trying to be negative.

you compared yourself to him,but if you think your used cues are only worth $75 that is up to you,and you probably shouldn't try to lump others into that category.

Alex charges $575 for his new cues like this one with 2 shafts and i would guess this cue to be worth a little less b/c it needs a wrap and only has one shaft, although it is a Predator apparently.i think i know this cue and it tons of tiny Birdseyes, but the photo is of the opposite side.

i think with a new wrap $300-$350 would be easy, and as it sits $250 easy.

Let me say this up front, I buy very few used cues and if I do buy one then I absolutely stole it. I build cues and those are what I sell. There is a very large mark up on new cues. I can by most factory built cues, new, for 50 to 75% off of retail. People want to trade in a used, Chinese cue on one of mine and when I tell them I am not interested that sometimes get upset. They have a Meucci they may have paid 300.00 for and want me to give 200.00 for it used. I tell them I can probably by the same cue, brand new, for around a 100.00 and they believe I'm lying to them. I won't sell anything that doesn't look brand new. This means that any cue that I purchase I have to refinish and re-wrap and then sell for a profit to someone who is not looking to buy one of my cues. Forget it.

Although this cue appears to have a Predator shaft, which is a plus as far as value, it also cuts out around half of the market for used cues as about half of the players don't like them. The cue definitely needs refinished and a new leather installed. Figure 200.00 for that plus the price of the cue and chances are good you could get a new one for not much of a difference in price. By the way, this cue from me with the Predator 2 shaft and leather wrap would cost 550.00 new. I would imagine Alex's is somewhere in the same neighborhood. Not wanting to step on Alex's toes nor diminishing his work in the least, it is plain to see that it is a rather plain player and has been around the block a time or two. Also, being used, I have no idea what, if any, other issues the cue may have ( warped butt, shaft, gouges, swelled rings and so forth). This is one reason why it is completely unfair, to both the builder and the purchaser to ask questions of this sort on a forum where the cue cannot be handled, inspected and appraised correctly. This builder is not known in my area. I've never had one of his cues in my shop and I've worked on many thousands of cues. I am sure that it would be very difficult to sell that cue, in this area, in the condition it appears to be in, for 200.00 or at the very most 250.00.

It's true that Szamboti's, Balabushka's and many other cues have become collectible over the years but you will spend a lot of very large fortunes buying up every cue made hoping that one day it will be a collectible, that is, to someone other than yourself.

Dick

A predator shaft should not raise the value of a Brick IMO. Alex's shafts are what makes them play so good. A Predator should hurt the value if there is no original shaft.
