I am looking into getting one the cue makers we all know and love ( AE,Scruggs,Sly ) to make me a cue. The thing is I want a certain hit and I am afraid to buy one without hitting with the cue first..

I played with a Mike WEBB and I really liked the hit. It was a real solid hit not spongey at all. If anyone has played with the WEBB cue they know what I'm talking about.

I want a 4 point with a few veneers, stack leather wrap, and a Hoppe ring.

Can you pool stick aficionado's give me some advice on some cue makers to contact that will work with me?

I have never hit with at Bebb, but, I have hit with this Klein and I can say it hits great. It is also close to what you are looking for in a cue. Maybe consider buying it?

Well you mentioned Scruggs who is retired so that isn't going to happen if you want one built. BUT you could go to Bob Frey, that's a hit.

Why am I the Colonel? Because I always get the chicken

Yea I'm not up on who is IN the Biz still.... I just know I want a cue made by some one with a very very hard hitting cue.

Richard Black will still make you a very hard hitting cue.

I had RIchard build me a simple 4-point cue back in 1978 and it was one of the best hitting cues I've owned and played with. I don't know what you mean by "hard" hitting so it is a little difficult to tell someone what is preferable to another. When I bought my Black cues he used the same taper as an original Balabushka or so he claims.

Josey cues have a very firm and solid hit, fit and finish are top-notch, prices are reasonable, and best of all the customer service is amazing. You can't go wrong with Keith and Sherri.

Ah...the hit of a Black....still plays good 30yrs later...I believe a little better

Was going to say Sly, Fry, Pierce, or Josey from what I've heard would all be firm hitting.

I've hit with a Frey and Josey and can vouch for those haven't hit with either of the others.

Diveney, Sly, Josey, Pierce, and another Fry are on my list.

I have a Pat Diveney Ebony Hustler with the Lake Salvage Shafts. I really like it. He is a very honest gentlemen to deal with. He makes high end cues on request. I am sure he is not the only good cue maker, but he is plenty good for me and I will order another one from him after I retire and get my 9' Diamond table.

I would also suggest an Omen cue.

They have a stiff hit just like my old Webb.

Pete is a great guy to work with too!

Kent Davis is another stiff hitting cue with a laminated butt and that is another maker I would highly recommend.

I should be getting my new Robert Harris any day and I will able to provide feedback on the hit and feel in a few weeks.

I'm confused. Why wouldn't you go ahead and work with Mike Webb?

You're going to get a hundred different answers from different people who have purchased different custom cues over the years. Dave Kikel and Chris Nitti are both excellent to work with.

Something with a stainless steel joint and a water buffalo tip will hit pretty stiff.

nobody can answer

You are asking about hits of cues, which is a perception. I don't even know what a hard or soft hit is. I own a Josey. I know the feel of the shot will change depending on the tip I have on the cue. Go to a SBE or other show and hit various cues to see what you like. Then once you find it have them build it, or just contact the person who built your last cue, that you like, and have them build you another.

I would guess this is just another post to try to solve the question of who has a better cue. You could probably search the threads instead of starting a new one.

Check out Robertson Custom Cues. Curtis makes one helluva cue. I have a Titlist conversion in the works with him.

A buddy of mine picked up a Leon Sly sneaky pete a few days ago. I hit a few balls with it and it hits like a mack truck! It's a very distinct hit for sure.

That being said, I play with a heavy full splice ebony sneaky with a G10 3/8x10 pin. Polar opposite from the SLY.
