Wanting a cue made... Need Help Deciding Who

If you're looking to have a cue built for you should consider Steve Lomax. I had a J/B cue built for me recently and the time frame was reasonable (3 months), it was delivered when promised, and is fantastic looking and hitting cue.

We all read the horror stories about cue makers taking forever to build a cue, or taking a deposit for something years in the making. With Lomax cues there was none of that.

There are a lot of choices out there but be careful who you give your money to.

I'm a Webb guy all the way. Just need to get him to make me a jump cue and I'll be all Webb (Break, Player and Jump cue, yea, that's the dream).

Tha's the dream...

Someone you may have not heard of but makes an Amazing cue is David Rowell from Birmingham Alabama, prices are great and so is his work. He owns Bumpers and has a shop set up in the place. PM me if you want his number.

I am looking into getting one the cue makers we all know and love ( AE,Scruggs,Sly ) to make me a cue. The thing is I want a certain hit and I am afraid to buy one without hitting with the cue first..

I played with a Mike WEBB and I really liked the hit. It was a real solid hit not spongey at all. If anyone has played with the WEBB cue they know what I'm talking about.

I want a 4 point with a few veneers, stack leather wrap, and a Hoppe ring.

Can you pool stick aficionado's give me some advice on some cue makers to contact that will work with me?

Didn't give much of how much you want to spend etc., and as noted above, everyone has an opinion.

IMO, the best playing cue for the dollar is Rick Howard cue. I don't think I have ever heard anything but great things about the playablity of his cues. I have had him make me a few, I have him do almost all of my repairs, building of shafts, and other items. His veneer work I would compare to any of the builders that are considered absolutely top.

Resell on Rick's cues is a little slower, but they do resell well. But if you are looking for $2000 or less cue, I think you would be foolish to have someone else build it.

If you are going over the $2K then I would go with a Tasc, SW, Gina, or other name builder with a good reputation. Mainly because of the ease of resell.

I prefer to pick up cues on the secondary market, as folks are buying cues that would have sold for $4K a few years ago for $2500 or less.

Research builders, as there are some low life builders like Showman, Zinzola, and others. It seems that it is getting worse and worse, so do your homework.

Again, give Rick a call, talk to him, and if you choose to go another route that's fine, but you'll never find an easier guy to work with. www.macecues.com

Best of rolls,

Freddie, I was thinking the exact same thing.

Email Mike, webbcues@cox.net, you won't be sorry.

Koop - one Webb and one on the way

Actually, he will be if he tries to email him
Mike said he has not used a computer in months hehe.

And he is not really taking random new orders.

I play with an Ariel Carmeli cue and love it. I have had 3 over the years from fancy to not so fancy its the hit that matters. He has worked with me on price and hit.

I actually saw Ariel at league last night and looked at a couple cues he is working on and a couple he had for sale.

If your interested in having him make you a cue I can get you his information if you need it.

Lots of cue makers out there.
