If you've ever gambled any length of time,you've been in situations that this thread applies to ...

This is an open discussion on what actions merit a concession of game

More Obvious

1.Grab rack

2.Unscrew cue

3.Rake balls

4. He yells "that's good"(or something similar)

Less Obvious(now this is where some people differ in opinion)

1.Motion towards the table during the shooters inning.

2.Placing hands in the shooters targeted pocket .

3.Any body movement,action,or language that can be easily interpreted as a deliberate "shark" move.

4.accidental or unaccidental rearranging of the lie of the balls with his stick,hand or body(happens all the time in 1pocket)

I have more,but these should get you started..

When I am gambling with someone that I dont know or have little/no trust in, I set up this rule ahead of time. I am sure that it saves a lot of arguements in long run.


1. It is never "good"
2. I shoot all nine balls and you shoot all nine balls
3. You sit down when I shoot and I sit down when you shoot
4. If you walk towards the table while I am shooting, you lose and same for me
5. If you unscrew your cue during a game...you lost the game
6. If you say anything while I am down on a shot...you forfiet the game and same for me

Throwin thier share of the next games quarters on the table. I usually play on the bar box so most are coin op. Also this might seem rude but it seems acceptable to most that do it. most of the time I'll say thats good.

I can't tell you how many times a dude's hand in the pocket has made me rattle the last ball. If you want to get technical, 0 times, it's my fault for letting him shark me, but it definitely is a 'move'.

If I had to explain it to another guy in 1 sentence I'd say "don't treat my gamewinning shot any differently than a shot in the middle of the rack."

Assuming he knows all the other basics of pool etiquette that covers everything.
 
Here is a question that came up along these lines. I was getting the "8" from someone playing a race to 11 for 100 beans. On one shot he committed a foul while making my "8". This ball was my money ball. Since it was a bad hit, and my ball fell...shouldn't the 8 be be spotted? Any help here will be great.

In most places, yes. The trouble is that the rules seem to vary somewhat as your location changes, and this is something that should be addressed BEFORE you start playing.

You've got to get that straight before you tee up .If you're playing me,all balls stay down:D

In 9-ball all spotted balls are spotted back on the table if the player giving the handicap fouls, therefore if I am spotting you the 7 ball and I make it and scratch on the break, up it comes to the spot. However if you make the 7 on the break and foul, it stays down.

Iv'e played like this since texas express became the norm.
 
In my Wednsday night league 9ft tables, a great looking blond sharked me by moving toward the table while I was shooting an easy straight in nine ball. I saw her out of the corner of my eye, even though I know better I took the shot and bobbled the pocket so I lost the game. The match would have been over had I won. The next game, I was shooting at another easy straight in 9-ball, she did the same thing, I thought about pulling up, then took the shot, bobbled the pocket, lost the game again. I finally won the match, but it is amazing how well I can shoot under the worst conditions, but a babe sharks me and I miss easy shots, what a mental game

You need to go play in the naked dancing lady bars awhile. After playing those as a pup I didn't bat an eye when an opponent's girlfriend bent over in a trick dress and I could see behind her looking down the neck of it. It was a cute shark though. A moderately low cut dress that fit very loosely with nothing on under it, something else revealed when she bent over facing me. I stopped, admired the view, and then refocused on the shot. Being a gentleman I did say, "thank you ma'am" after I shot! :D
