Warped butt question

The long and short of it is I have a muecci with a busted shaft.I've been thinking about replacing it with either a break shaft or maybe just another regular one with a leather tip.

The thing is the butt is warped.Its not real bad but light can be seen under it if you watch really closly at the table level as it rolls.This means when a straight shaft (no warp) is screwed on the whole cue takes on quite a wiggle when rolled.

So a buddy and I were discussing the situation and we arrived at the conclusion that a little warp in the butt should not matter at all since the cue really needs to be straight from the bridge hand to the ball.

Or in other words,the cue behind the bridge hand can be shaped like an "S" for all it worth,it won't effect the shot like a warped shaft would.

Or am I missing something in this logic?

If this were your cue,would you buy another shaft,or just forget it?

No, I would not throw good money after bad. Meuccis are known to be weak and break below the joint. Not a good choice for a break cue. However it is a 5/16X18 so you could put an inexpensive import shaft on it for $25 or less. Or maybe just make it into one of these?

Yep. Rackem is absolutely correct.

Really, you have 2 choices:

A) Make it into a plunger, or
B) Use it for kindling wood

I would choose "A" since you'll get more uses out of it. Heck, it could even become a heirloom which you can pass down

I would put a decent shaft on it and play with. The slight warp should not affect the play. Or make a bar cue out of it, if you have your own pool room.

I usually put my warped cues in my pool room. Needless to say, none of my Meuccis have warped yet--not even the black dots.

if the warp is very slight and in the handle, it shouldn't affect play enough to tell the difference. also if the warp is in the handle, the handle can be replaced. i wouldn't suggest doing this to less expensive cues because the repair could cost more than the cue but for cues who's market value is around $1,000 or more or it's an older collectible cue it could be an option worth looking into.

You and your friend were right the first time.

If the shaft is straight, a slight warp in the butt is not fatal.

One tip worth noting:
if you can get a shaft to put on the butt,
sight down the cue like a rifle,
rotate the cue slowly till it looks straight,
this will be the point at which the warp is is the plane
perpendicular to the bed of the table.

put some kind of mark, small dot using a marker,
on the dead top of the butt.

If you always orient the cue with the dot at
top-dead-center, it will be as if there were no warp at all
