Poll to follow....

Noticed the other night there is a slight warp in the shaft of my playing cue.....it's straight about 2/3's of the way, and then bends a bit.....you could look at it and notice it's not a lot, but just enough where it can be seen, maybe 3mm off center the last third of the way up to the tip....

Had a buddy check it out, said "ahh....it's not much, who cares"

Well, it bothers me.....is it something that can be fixed, or do I just need to have a shaft or two made.....if so, should I get one of those predator or OB1 shafts???

What say you AZ?

I don't know if it can be fixed but if it bothers you it will always be in the back of your mind. When you miss you are going to question the shaft and then you will be questioning it before you shoot the next shot. JMO Also, if you get an OB-1 or Predator - either one will be a good purchase.

Just rotate the bend where it doesn't bother you in your stroke..:D

My family is fine. Thanks. I went over that bridge about 6 hours before it fell. The traffic is typically stopped on that bridge due to construction and congestion. It handles between 140,000 and 200,000 vehicles per day. I am very surprised more people didn't die.

I'd say it depends on how happy you were before noticing the warp. If you were happy with the original shaft, I'd say replicate it if you can. If not, aftermarket shafts can be nice...you might even wish to add Tiger X with sniper tip to your list above...mine performs quite well screwed on to a Jacoby.

Ahhh, but right now I've fallen in love with my Josey with original shaft(s) equipped with talisman tips. It's all a "feel" thing...

Thanks for your kind words. The suit is tailored fit, and I do look kinda sporty in that photo of myself, if I do say so myself. :)

When you roll your shaft on the table... does the tip raise up off of the table? If it doesnt its just a "taper roll". My Jensen cue has a small taper roll on both shafts. Doesnt affect the play of the cue at all.

I do not recommend trying to fix a warped shaft. You can have it put straight again but as sure as you are sitting there it will warp right back after a few hits. If it does not rise off the felt it should be fine to play with but if it really bothers you then go with the OB-1.

I am really bothered by warps once I notice them. I don't know if it's mental or not, but it doesn't really matter when you get down to it; being bothered is being bothered.

As far as the poll goes, I would submit that the shaft could possibly be fixed. I once spoke to well known (and highly-regarded) cue maker about warped shafts, and he informed me of a technique that he has good success with. I've not yet tried it, but I trust that it works, as the technique has been used for centuries, albeit initially for other applications.

It can be fixed!!!

My friend who is an accomplished crafstman and woodsman can do amazing things with wood. He has been fixing cues in our area and you can ask anybody in the Alexandria-Springfield, VA area about his performance. His name is Leonard. He resides in DC-Maryland area.

He does excellent work and stands behind his work.

Thanks for all the input and votes....

Ended up going with a totally different option....had a cue I purchased that I hadn't played much.....well, since the shaft had me mental, started using the other cue......now, I kinda favor it, so I can put off the decision for a while :D

Thanks,

Jason

That works, no doubt. However, forget just once to do that and you might miss the shot.

My OB-1 plays great, and is straight. No matter how I turn the cue when applying english, the hit is always the same. And that helps my confidence.

Since it's just a slight warp, you can try hanging the entire cue on its own weight (vertically) so that it'll "stretch" itself naturally. Try looking for those long rubber clamps for the shaft, and let the cue hang whenever you don't use it.

Don't use those cue racks since the cue tends to LEAN on the holes/clamps causing "stresses" or lateral forces to act on different parts of the cue that can lead to warpage. If you hang the cue by its own weight, your cue is only pulled only in 1 direction by gravity, therefore keeping your cue straight

Why go for laminated shafts when you can get high quality solid shafts? Not only do they feel better, they can also perform the same way as those laminated ones, or even better, at almost half the price.

Low deflection vs stiff shafts? check out the difference here http://www.easypooltutor.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=8400&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0;)

Not all laminated shafts are created equal. Meucci black dot shafts aren't the same as 314s, which also are different from OB-1s.

My laminated shafts feel and play differently from the solid shafts. I have a shaft Ed Young made for me whose hit is awesome, and it's way powerful too. However, it's not too forgiving, and squirts like a mother. I mostly use it for breaking now; the OB-1 is my player.

I've never had a regular shaft play anywhere near the same as my OB-1.
