Was Daniel Negreanu a pool player?

I think the point Ken was trying to make is that pool requires intelligence in addition to physical performance.

Poker requires intelligence and cunning, but doesn't require physical performance. You don't need to be physically talented or coordinated in any way to be good at poker.

Both require skill to get to the highest level. That goes without saying.

Here's my take on poker compared to pool. Pool is 90% skill and 10% luck, poker is 50% skill and 50% luck. Definitely far more luck in poker but you still need a lot of skill to be a winning player. True that poker is mental exercise, but it also takes stamina, especially in tournament play that can last as much as twelve hours in a day. Like pool, many of the top young poker players work out and stay in shape. When you get tired your mind tends to wander and you may not make the best decisions. It's definitely a challenge for me to keep up with the young guns of poker, but I like it.

I am.sure some.one will.correct.me.if I am.wrong but I believe he used to be in rodeos.....maybe bronc riding ? If not him I do believe a pro poker player used to rodeo.

Daniel went straight from being a student to being a pro card player.
He made a good career decision....he's won over 20 million officially...
....who knows how much gambling.

His TV and online persona is just about the way he is on the street...a people person.
...Canadian 8-ball leaguers down for the play-offs...when Daniel meets them, he'll take
out eating and partying...he's a great guy.

He'd laugh about the rodeo thing...uh uh

You are watching tournament poker ... that is not real poker, they are playing with chips that have no cash value. And, you are also correct when you say that there is much luck involved.

Real poker is played with real cash and the blinds are fixed ... believe me this is a game of skill that requires real talent. Not physical talent, but you have to have it together between your ears.

In a real poker game the more skilled player will absolutely win the majority of the time.

Good rolls.

Plus, one is a sport and one is a game. Hard to compare the two.

But you are correct, poker is not all luck, other wise the crappy players would being winning 100's of thousands of year and have career earnings of mega-millions.

I love poker but getting harder to sit at a table for 10 hours straight... and I don't like small stack games, as more luck is involved.
