Was Einstein Right About 6 Million Shots on a Pool Table?

The phrase under the picture of Einstein does not have quotation marks

Just so everyone knows, a quote is represented with quotations marks.

The phrase under the picture of Einstein does not have quotation marks, so it's not being represented as a quote.

We have on the average of 30k to 50,000 thoughts a day

Einstein had a vivid imagination, he knew it's something we can do consciously, however, the processing is done on the subconscious level.

The conscious mind is at the mercy (for the most part) of the subconscious mind. Under the level of "thinking" lurks our beliefs, our concepts and our self defense mechanisms that deal with security and social interaction....it also controls any issues we are having and there's no way to stop it by "figuring it out" because the problem centers in the minds, the "subconscious, and the conscious".

We have on the average of 30k to 50,000 thoughts a day between the two "minds"....this leads to all kinds of possible behaviors, emotions/feelings, and even delusions.....it's very often from a balance issue, your mental "self" is out of balance.

The way to improve you conscious contact with your mental self and the "inner world" is to address the problem at it's source.....connecting the subconscious mind to the conscious mind in a useful, more effective way. This requires periods of "non thinking"......it's somewhat of a paradox - "to improve our thinking we must not think"

This is done through meditation and prayer (which is a form of meditation).....it doesn't matter if someone is atheist, agnostic or a believer (it's spirituality, not religion) , they must at least be willing to believe in a Power higher than their conscious thinking to make any progress. Once someone is "willing to believe" then the door is opened to the process of higher thinking.

I recommend ANAPANA Meditation***, it's a simple way to meditate, where the person observes their breathing at the source, their very own thoughts....."observing" the thoughts is very important in this process....of course this is much easier said than done, the more we think about something the less chance we have of actually doing it.

Here's another:

"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it."
- A. Einstein 1954

And another:

"I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one. You may call me an agnostic, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from the fetters of religious indoctrination received in youth. I prefer an attitude of humility corresponding to the weakness of our intellectual understanding of nature and of our own being."
Letter to Guy H. Raner Jr. (28 September 1949), from article by Michael R. Gilmore in Skeptic magazine, Vol. 5, No. 2 (1997).

That's pretty silly. Of course he knew imagination and knowledge are both "the power humans possess". He used his great imagination to advance human knowledge.

"to think long is to think wrong"

Actually he says "knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand".

Remember this in your own pool game, imagination is the key, so experience the game.

PJ..You reminded me of an old funny story, some may not have heard;

W.C. Fields was lying in the hospital on his death bed, carefully reading the Bible, page by page !...His old friend Jack Benny stopped by for a visit, and couldn't believe his eyes...He said, "Bill, what is this ?..You have always been a profane, self-avowed atheist..What the hell are you doing reading the Bible ?"...To which Fields replied,
in his inimitable voice..."Looking for loophole's, Jack..Looking for loophole's !" ;)

PS..Many of us would do well to remember that little tale !..In fact, I've been checking out the 'good book' for few months now m'self :angel2:

PPS..CJ,..Judging by your last 'off the wall' entry, my post may be a little too deep for you ?, If you don't "get it".. just give me a call and I'll 'splain it to you.

Dropping out of school is the teacher.

Post of the thread

It's not even mildly entertaining to see people discuss Einstein when they clearly don't even understand the difference between finite and infinite sets.

It's actually quite sad.

It's funny to me when I hear people talk about the Game of pool not "being good enough to be successful".

It's never been the Game of pool's fault it's not doing well....it's like blaming the steak for a town never having a great Steak House when all they have been served is hamburger. 'The Game is the Teacher'

Thats very true Mr. Banks...But you covered up my important post, with your obvious 7 word statement !
..Hizzoner is not very good at going back more than one post..and he may not want to deal with your pointing out his academic shortcomings ! :o :D...Late Edit; But he sure knows his steaks !

As long as he continues providing AZB with his "pink slime" without it being pointed out, it would only act as a disservice to let some believe that it is condoned or accepted by others.

4.0? Did they use the same grading system back then? ;)

I half-assed my way to an AS that i didnt want. I've gotten myself in the pool business this past year. Some people can make it profitable without being full of themselves.

BJT, i absolutely agree. Harry Frankfurt wrote something on this subject.

Someone once told me a long time ago the reason people think I'm different is because when a problem happens, I go very deep into the problem to find a solution! Most people can't go see as "far" as I can sometimes! It bothered me for a long time but I got over it!

CJ, you are gonna be that person that is definitely considered different and you will always have many idiots downing you! It's tough to be in a room with 100 people and trying to get them to see things a certain way because they don't have the imagination you do! When 90 of them have almost no imagination, you're gonna lose!

Think of it like this, your playing for the world championship against efren and its hill hill! Your shooting at the 8 that's 2" from the corner and all you have to do is roll it in to shoot the game ball that's also in the in front of the hole,,,,,, and you miscued:( completely miss the 8! Efren has BIH, what are the chances of him missing to balls in the hole?? THIS my friend is what you're up against! You have almost no chance!

Good luck sir!!

You are wrong Mr. Liakos, he does have a 'chance'!...CJ ain't a bad guy, all he has to do is back off the brag, and the self-promo...to somewhere below RECORD levels !...I don't really understand the reason for all the rest of your rhetoric ?..But, I do agree with you 1000% on one thing !..He is definitely "DIFFERENT"!!!

PS..A little more readability, and 'common sense' in his posts, wouldn't hurt either ! ;)

That was the whole point my friend:) "you really don't understand"!

It's tough sometimes, it took me a long time to accept that I'm different than most. This doesn't mean in any way that I am trying to say I'm smarter than anyone! All I'm saying is my problem solving abilities are above average! I just see things differently than most! CJis kinda in the same boat.

On your "common sense" comment! Think about this " common sense" thing. What is "common sense"? Who is to say something is "common"?

This sir, is what I mean by being "different";)

It's all about imagination! School and degrees mean nothing to me! It's all about ones imagination! This is what makes us "different"!

Fair enough bud !..Just so you understand, that I understand..that 'different' ain't always a blessing !..I've been perceived as a little different myself ! (especially on the internet forums :o)..But, now that I'm in my 8th decade, I finally outgrew it ! (I think)..Also, I will match 'imaginations' with ANYONE ! (and spot them a few balls too !)

Surely you know I was joking about my academic conquests, don't you ? :p...That would be an interesting poll ?
..How many really good pool players, (of which I WAS one)..made it through high school ?..I know I didn't !
..Pretty safe bet Mr. Wiley didn't either !..I would estimate less than 10% of the really good ones !

Peace,

SJD
