Hello everyone, and thank you in advance for your responses.....

Long story short, I've been recuperating from knee surgery the past few months. Since the surgery, I've picked up a cue probably 7 or 8 times total, for about 10-15 minutes each time at the start, but now I'm up to about 40-45 minutes per session. Each time I haven't really been able to 'catch a gear', and was lucky to run a rack of 8 or 9 ball .
At this point in my recovery, I've advanced far enough where the use of a walking aid is not necessary .

Today, we went to my in-laws for a family get-together. They have a pool table, and a few inexpensive cues that I put appropriate tips on (nothing fancy, tips or otherwise). A few relatives wanted to shoot a few games, so we made our way to the game room. I neglected to bring my own cue (3/8x10 wood-to-wood joint w/high performance shaft), so I grabbed one of the Crest cues with a decent tip and a brass reverse joint (the pin is on the shaft).
I didn't expect much, simply because I wasn't shooting well at home, I was without my own cue, and I hadn't really "played" in a few months (sans the above paragraph). In any case, I beared down, and tried to make the best of the situation.

I shot the lights out !!!!! Cueball control was perfect !!!!! Not only was I making balls, but running racks to boot !!!!! Man, I was HOT !!!!! Out of about 20 games, we figured I ran at least 4 racks of 8 ball, and 9 or 10 racks of 9 ball (my father-in-law and I tried to do the math afterwards). I felt good, loose, in stroke.

Same lighting, similar cloth, same size table, similar pockets......

So what the h-e-double hockey stick happened :scratchhead:  ??? Any thoughts ???

i think this is great marketing when is it going in the wanted for sale LOL JK

i would say that the thinking factor was out. you new it was crappy equipment, so you didnt expect much. but when you are home you are asking to much of yourslef and physking yourself out.. you had fun plain and simple. once you started haveing fun it didnt end. so nut shell. fun+running racks = good time.. think if you played like crap there. but you didnt cuz you didnt have such high expectations.

Touche'..... PM me with an offer

I can put a few 9 ball racks together, but tonite was..... unreal. I was dialed in. Every time I was leaning into a shot, I KNEW where to hit it, and with what speed for setup on the next shot, to set up for a breakout shot, etc...

All joking aside, I shot WAY over my head tonite..... and I'm sitting here now, trying to figure out how and why.....

Competition is a great thing! I always seem to shoot better when playing against someone else vs shooting by myself.

It was you for sure...any good player can pick up a house cue and shoot well with it ...
I'd say it was your time off and enthusiasm to get back to playing that made a large difference...combined with the skills you've acquired over time.. Glad you're feeling well enough to shoot again!!

There's a strong possibility that because you haven't played in a while, combined with less than optimal equipment, you merely really payed attention to just what you were doing. And instead of expecting things to happen, you made them happen.

For once, I agree.

sounds to me like you were pressing at home. once you relaxed and just played pool, muscle memory took over...

Although I feel like that little dog in the old cartoon that jumps around the "big dog" saying "Hey Spike...hey...hey Spike...good idea Spike"...I completely agree with Neil...

I don't think you should dismiss this too readily...You could market it as "The Nancy Kerrigan Relaxation Method"...in only 6-8 weeks your pool game could improve (6-8 weeks for recovery time)...all that would be needed would be a crowbar and someone who doesn't like you...one well-placed shot to the knee and you can be "relaxing" over the pool table in no time!!! :p

I mean it's just an idea...:D

Its all focus, you were playing with unfamiliar equipment which causes you to bare down and really concentrate.Trust me you can do the same with your own cue.
