Was real Ivory ever an option on a custom ordered Meucci cue?

I am curious if anyone knows if Meucci ever put any real ivory in their cues, or if it was ever an option on a custom ordered Meucci.

There is the Meucci 97-26 cue that I am interested in buying, and the person is telling me that it was a custom ordered cue, and that it has ivory in it (maybe just the joint and butt cap), and just curious if this is possible (if Meucci offered real ivory as an option on a custom order)?

I am adding pictures of the cue for opinions on if it has real ivory or not.

What do you guys think the cue is worth?

I am assuming that most members on here are not fans of Meucci (just from all of the bad stuff that I have read from a lot of members here about Meucci cues), but if you were a fan (or are a fan of Meucci), then what do you think the cue would be worth (if it is straight and in decent condition)?

Thanks for any thoughts, or opinions on the cue.

I wondered the same thing about this cue, from what I found that cue may have been a custom order as most of that model were not ebony, I don't think it's ivory IMO but who knows. Cue definately could use a refin

Thanks for your reply. I did not know that the cue is different then the 97-26 production model. That is really cool if it is at least unique (even if it does not have any ivory in it). The person wants $250 for it. I just do not know if that is a reasonable price.

Yes, over the years Bob Meucci did use real Ivory in some of the "Custom" orders....I have dis-assembled, more then a few Meucci cues to see how they are built and to steal parts, and I will NEVER bad mouth the construction of the "older" models!

To keep cost down, most "ivorylike" inlays were plastic, but looked good IMO.

Funny to see how at differing times certain cues were the "must have" (Meucci circa 1986... Rempe Era "road cue/chess cue/etc") and others were just "old school" cues.....(Palmer) (Gus) Etc....

have fun,

Gerry

YES, I've had several embellished with IVORY

(olympian, jr-7, elephants, etc)

Thanks for your reply. Does any of the white material (in the pictures that I posted) appear to be ivory, or is it hard to tell by looking at a picture? How to tell the difference between real ivory, and fake ivory looking plastic? The material does look different then the other 97-26 models that I have found pictures of on the net. I have never known how to identify real ivory. Like the ivory that is used on Schon cues (I always knew that to be the authentic real ivory), but some cues I just do not know. So would you consider the cue in the pictures to be one of the older well made ones? Thanks

I have a friend that bought a Meucci back in the late 90's in SoCal. It appears to have an ivory forearm and butt sleeve. For the price he said he paid, and how it looks. I believe it to be real ivory.

$250 seems pretty reasonable for this custom Meucci even without any ivory. If you like the cue, buy it. If it does contain ivory, that'd be a plus.

One of the guy who is now playing Pool upstairs, had a Meucci Gambler. It fooled many as it looked like IRORY. But the Cue got soaked in rainstorm, case must have leeked a little, Cue was on the back set of the guy car for a few day, and the decals pealed off.

BS, the cue you referenced, unless it was a knockoff, did not have decals

So Meucci added the ivory, or you had a cue maker do that custom work? I do not know when Bob Meucci stopped custom making cues, or maybe he never stopped. I do not know.

YES, BOB and/or his associates did use ivory to embellish cues

i don't know what his current level of involvement is

Ivorine and it's not a custom cue. Not ivory.

The only thing custom is the leather wrap.

Use a black light, ivory glows.

Bob did use Ivory. But I know for a fact that a customer of mine refinished a Meucci Gambler and sanded the cards off. So if decals are not the correct term for those cards then we can call them overlays. He then bought a miniature deck of cards photo copied the cards and glued them back on the cue.

maybe that's the one cuckoo referred to that got wet:grin-square:

there no ivory in no meuci ive ever seen..the white plastic looks yellowish in all there cues because the finish turns yellow in short period of time.test for ivory....take a digital pic of a ferrel that you know is ivory zoom in and you will see grain do the same with the butt and compair..

Does anyone know for sure how Bob does the gambler cues? I always assumed it was miniature playing cards under the finish. If you look at this picture its obvious that they aren't always lined up well.
