going here for work soon, does anyone know of a good place to play?

big tables or bar pool?

Are you staying in the city (DC) or in the suburbs?

In DC, Bedrock, Buffalo Billiards and Cue Bar are all pretty nice and have 9 footers. I'm not sure about bar tables in DC other than the usual one or two tables in a bar.

If I recall correctly, Buffalo Billiards won a DB "Best New Room" award or was in the running at least, years ago. If they kept it up, would be a nice place to visit. They had Buffalo Nickles inlayed into the tables for spots.

in the suburbs, takoma park area, my buddies are already down there working and they tell me it's all latino lol, anyway, thanks for the input, I've never been to d.c or around that area. we'll see what happens, I work 7 days a week and will only get out at night.

Dc

Definitely check out Bedrock as someone already posted. It's a nice bar, nice people. They only have a few (5?) tables but they are very well maintained. Atomic billiards was nearby there as well.

I'm not sure you'll end up with a high opinion of the city if what you see is Takoma Park, MD.

Are you working AND staying in Takoma Park? You should really head downtown in the evenings, there are several different bar districts, many of which have pool halls.

From Takoma Park, Metro is definitely the way to travel if you're going into the city. It might be slightly slower than driving, but it's way easier to get around DC if you don't have to worry about where to leave your car (also, you don't have to worry about staying sober).

And yes, I play a lot of pool, but almost entirely in the VA suburbs, and only rarely downtown.

thanks, carrying a cue case on public transportation sounds bad, I'll stick to the burbs, maybe we can play when I get there?

I carry a case on public transportation all the time and never have any trouble. So I wouldn't worry about that.

The closest place to Takoma Park is Galaxy Billiards in Silver Spring. They've got 20+ tables that are exceptionally fast. In the times I've been there, I haven't seen much in the way of action, though.

I advise against going to Buffalo, though. There are really not any players there (except league night, which is Tuesday, but you still won't find any action), and the place is really not about pool. Bedrock in Adams Morgan is the best in DC, but Cue Bar on U Street is also good. Lately on the weeknights, Cue Bar has had a ton of good 1 pocket action.

Cory, what is the place you and I played at in DC? That was quite nice...

Also, I'll second that carrying a cue on the DC metro is just fine.

Yep, I've also carried my cue case on the Metro many times, no hassles.

When will you be here?

Hi Mike --

That was Bedrock Billiards in Adams Morgan, the same place Andrew, Axe, and me recommended.

Bedrock

Me too!! I used to live a couple blocks from Bedrock and played there all time. I played Max Eberle there many times and quite a few other characters. Plus, they mix a decent drink and pride themselves on good beer. Can't beat that. =o]
