Mark wilson is probably one of the best instructors in the world. he's been around the block and can play pretty well.

I really enjoyed Mark Wilson's commentary

This was the first time I had watched a game that had Mark Wilson commentating and I really enjoyed it. Unlike other "color" commentators like who fill the time with anecdotes and comparasons to players of the past, Mark was consistently making (to me) very interesting observations about technique that set him apart. I know he is known as an excellent teacher and it is clear when you listen to his commentary why that is; he is clearly an expert in analyzing mechanics. I sincerely hope ESPN will be retaining Mark's services in future events.

(For the rest of the broadcast schedule is here.)

OB,
You can check out Mark's website at www.playgreatpool.com.

I've never heard his commentary. What was he "over exaggerating"?? A professional friend of mine told me it would be hard to exaggerate the quality of play in that series of matches.

Mark W. can really play. He was a member of the Mosconi Cup team in the early 90's, has won open professional tournaments, and is a high hundreds runner in 14.1. He and Jerry Briesath are by far the 2 best pool instructors I've ever seen.

Mark Wilson is obviously one of the greatest living scholars on pool, but I'd have to include myself as one of those who think he's a weak commentator, and I, like our thread starter, did not enjoy his commentary of the 2004 BCA Open.

By the way, are you sure you watched it on ESPN and not the History Channel? That was ages ago.

mark wilson quote

MArk wilson made this quote refering to santos during the mentioned match.

Mitch Lawrence says " Santos will have to buckle down or this match will slip away from him fast"

Mark Replies " He knows that mitch he is no virgin.

Just a weird reference. Every shot is a challenging shot. And every time the opponent comes to the table, he says. This will be a challenge, the leave is a tuff one.

i like ewa better. and shes hot. laffin

He may be a great player and teacher but his comentary. Well maybe he needs a lesson.

I have been aorund pool since the early 90's and never heard of him, I have many tapes and instructinal vids and books. Never running into him. The only other work of his is commentating on Efferen vs Earl on the 100k color of money match. Going to check his website. Just so i may form a better opinion . Ill give anyone a chance.

It seems the pockets are big. Maybe just the newness in the cloth, but a few shots would have never made in the pocket in the pool room I frequent. I think for the pro tounaments they need to toughen up the equipment.

Right on, Pete. As the curtain draws open on the 2005 WPC, I wonder whether the fact that they seem to generally compete on equipment that is too loose will hurt the chances of the Americans. Hope not, but I'm a little concerned about it.

They have been showing the DCC ring game on ESPN Classic for the last couple of months or so. Danny DiLiberto and Jimmy Mataya are the announcers and they just crack me up. I'd like to see those two announce more. Danny has the patience of Job with Mataya who is crazy but funny. They'd probably have to have a 3 second delay for Mataya because he lives on the edge but he is very entertaining.

Oh, btw, I don't care too much for Mark's announcing either. He seems kind of stiff to me. He needs to relax more.

Good pool announcers

I like these anouncers Grady, and the Mataya and Dilaberto combo, Buddy hall does a good job. Please never ever the black widow. Did anyone see her masacre on that celeb pool tourney on Bravo? Mitch lawrence is good along with Ewa.

I'll concur with some others in this thread on Danny D. Dan DiLiberto has the perfect blend of knowledge, personality and communication skills for pool commentary. He s always outstanding.

SJM,
I couldn't agree more. I would encourage other posters who feel the same about Danny D. (and Grady as well) to consider a lesson with these very excellent communicators - very informative and very entertaining.

In a lesson with Danny D. I was getting down to shoot a shot of which he did not approve. He stopped me before I could shoot with a, "what the hell are you doing??" I explained my thoughts, he corrected me, told me the correct way to approach the situation (he is not in any way shy or restrained). I then asked if there was any situation in which I WOULD try the shot my originally intended way. As I got down to shoot he replied, "Yah, when you quit liking money." I was laughing so hard I got a cramp in my side and shoulder. He is EVERY bit as entertaining in person.

MARK WILSON CAN NOT ONLY PLAY BUT IS A SUPER TEACHER. HE HELPED THIS 59 YEAR OLD EX-PLAYER CATCH UP MANY YEARS IN JUST 3 DAYS OF LESSONS; I ALSO ENJOY HIS COMMENTARY. YOUR COMMENT THAT "WILSON DRIVES ME NUTS" AS WELL AS YOUR OBVIOUS SPELLING AND GRAMMER SKILLS, ELIMINATES ANY POINTS FOR YOUR VIEWS.

I suspect you mean "grammar" and not "grammer" in this case. Grammer is a place in Indiana. Here on the forum, we do not summarily dismiss the views of those who fail to write impeccably.
