Watching top flight players negotiate games for the cheese

Often depends on who's watching.... and Many other factors. I normally worked someone for months while doing my routine waiting for the right time. Gambling and winning in not simple.
Yes, these guys are smart. I guess ego is more apparent in these kind of scenarios and match-ups in East Asia due to 'face' being a big part of the culture. So it was probably more interesting to me, as I am watching a person deal with finding the way to present the right kind of 'face' (it's something that Americans and Europeans deal with in very different way in my experience).

You know, I never cared for the gambling side of pool but I've always found it interesting how other people have no problem putting up so much money on one player they are hoping will win. It literally makes no sense to me that those people would put up mid 5 figures. But hey, if they have the money to spend, whatever makes them happy right?
you gamble every day of your life for big money. you just dont bet really on yourself performing.

you buy car insurance which is a bet against the insurance company that you will damage your car and they bet you wont.
same with life insurance its a bet you make that you will die young.
same as buying a warranty on something. you are betting it will break and they bet it wont.

and all those bets are very bad bets for you monetarily, that you and most justify doing with faulty reasoning.

"we" in the west don't tiptoe around the matter i guess and instead call each other cowards or variations thereof. and ducking doesn't bring great shame. i would suck at being chinese, or worse, korean. koreans are mental with their social codes. there have been air plane crashes because of that stuff

Agree, unwritten rules and social standards can be infuriating, and ultimately limiting of freedom. We do have our own in Europe (relative to our respective countries) and the US. We just don’t lean so heavily onto the sword when they’re challenged (though my experience with some Americans has seen some bizarre hills chosen to die on… haha)

I’d love to see more crossover between American and Chinese table players. Some of the guys who never touch the American table are frighteningly good.
This also translates into they probably don't exist in Fargo so they can travel under the radar. Would wreak havoc in money matches on US soil, most likely.
