seeing the armor all thread reminded me of this. i like to take wd-40, put a small amount on a rag, and wipe down my shaft with it.seems to make it slick, which i like. anybody else ever tried this?

If you are going to spray anything on you'r shaft for that instant slick feeling, go to the auto parts store and find a can of %100 silicone lubricant. Its in a spray can just like wd 40 and will make the wood 10 times slicker than wd will, plus iif its not a petrolium / silicone mix (avoid that ) Its not acidic like wd 40.

WD means water displacement, if you want a similiar product that displaces better than the petroleum solvent, use a deck sealant on you cue, its made for wood and you could even play on those outdoor pool tables while its raining.

Shark Oil

Use Shark Oil once a week, then burnish with leather. Non toxic, no abrasion. No harm to finish.

WD-40 is not too bad for "sealing" a bare wood shaft. After "sealing" it with it, and wiping all the excess from it, apply McGuire's http://www.cleanacar.com/meg70.html wax, let it dry, rub off the excess, buff it, and reapply it, buff etc.

Does a great job.

Much less work, and better in the long run, IMHO, is to get a shooting glove.

If you don't like the look of the spandex ones, you might like to consider the cotton-and-nylon gloves available at auto parts stores for about $1 per pair.

Sure work well. Just cut off the pinky and ring fingers on the glove and you'll be fine.

The nylon in the glove really helps keep things smooth. 100% cotton doesn't work as well.

Not recommended!

Why on earth would you want to rub acid into it? To change the ph of the wood? Or?

As for bleach, why? To make the shaft whiter?

If you want to find out what acid or bleach will do, pick up a beat up or broken house cue at a pool hall, shouldn't cost much...

Tell me, do you like the smell of bleach?

I've been told that silocone is not good for wood. Have you ever tried it?

Yes, I have sprayed just a super fine mist over a waxed and polished shaft, It gets unbelievably slick. But I wouldnt personaly do it without waxing it first.
