When I saw the thread asking 'Who is the best pool player on AZ Billiards', I thought to myself 'I guess we will never know'. We are just to far away from everyone everywhere. I think such a tournament would be a blast.
There is a way we could have a tournament. It just wouldn't really be a pool tournament. Nope, nobody could say this would make them the champ, but I think it could be a lot of fun.
Two years ago my furnace went bad and I was able to tell them to put the new one at a different spot. This allowed me to put a pool table in the basement. Before that the only way I got to play pool at home is on the computer. 'Virtual Pool 3' by Interactive. It is by far the best computer pool game out there, even though it is about 3 or 4 years old now. Can be had now for probably less than 20 dollars. If you've never played this game you shouldn't compare it to the old 2D pool games. It is 3D and looks it. Is it 'playing pool', No. Does it remind you of playing pool, Yes.
Some of the features that I think would be nice for this forum.
1. We could have a tournament.
2. There can be spectators watching a match.
3. There is a chat line at the bottom of the screen. (We could even use this as a chat room by setting up a challenge table. It automatically remembers who is up next. When your up, you shoot, when your not you can talk.) (A challenge table works just like a chalk board in a bar. This differs from a room set up for a match where you just have two players playing and others can watch.)
4. Rooms can be password protected. We could post the password on AZB then we'd know it was just us.
I haven't had this on my computer is over a year and hadn't played it in longer than that. I'm going to load it up this week sometime. I'll follow up on this thread. For one thing, the last time I played it, I wasn't running WinXP. I'll have to check it out. One problem that I can remember is Firewalls. I don't know if they have resolved this in anyway or not. I use to have to set my firewall to minimum protection while I played this online.
If anyone is interested in doing this, give me a reply here. I could use my web site to organize things (have a lot of room available).
When I was playing this online, I had a LOT of fun. The chatting during the matches was always just as much fun as the playing. Harassing about missed shots, discussing what should have been played etc, etc.
