A friend of mine is currently paying an extraordinary amount of money for his website

The problem he is having is with the points. His current webmaster is saying this is atlot of work.

Is there anybody on here that can do website hosting at a reasonable price? This doesn't look like a lot of work but then again I can't do websites.

Thank you to anyone who can help out if at least point me in the right direction.

That's Curly -- try MDDHosting

What's the problem with the points?

I assume his web guy is doing the data entry too, because that's the only thing that looks like work to me.

I posted quickly because I saw you are online.

Is he looking for new hosting, or just someone else to maintain the site?

Yes he sends tournament results to her as well. And she converts it to points

Somebody else to do it. Pm me and I'll tell you how much but in my opinion its is WAY to much

That's where the work is, but it isn't like it's a TON of work. I assume it's just dropping numbers into a spreadsheet. How much are they charging him for that?

use www.hostgator.com to host the site and then use any of the free packages to do the site.

What your friend needs is to do it himself using a blog or a CMS content management system.

The problem with content is simply that web developers just want to make sites they don't want to manage them. A "webmaster" should be someone who does both but in fact they often are not.

There are two sides to having a site, the tech side making sure everything works and the content side making sure the information is up to date. My advice is to use the free open-source software that hostgator provides easy installation for and then to use the VAST community of users who already run awesome sites to teach you what to do.

If you need tech help you can usually find it online. I had someone go in and integrate my navigation with the blog and image gallery. So I run a basic site where I generally don't have to do much more than simple editing using a free program called Kompozer.

This all takes a little time to get familiar with it but at the end of it the owner of the site is in complete control of the content and the tech on the site. No programming required but learning a little html doesn't hurt.

and hostgator is the best in the business that I have found - the BEST by a long shot. They are there 24/7 to help with ANYTHING.

John, check out WYSIWYG Web Builder (http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com) for really easy web design. I still use Kompozer occasionally, but Web Builder is quite literally drag and drop web design. They have a 30 day free trial, but the program is only $45 for the full version.

Eddie, your buddy may want to consider it too, but based on the info in your PMs it sounds like he's getting a decent deal.

I think by a lot of work, he is saying it takes up a lot of time, as opposed to being difficult to do. To save money, your friend could update the spreadsheet by himself and then send it to the webmaster for uploading each week.

But since he is already entering the tournament result data, it wouldn't be hard to set up a database and have the points standings automatically update everytime new tournament results are posted. It may take a little time to set up at first, but would save a lot of work and be cost-effective in the long run.

We do the same sort of thing for Mike Zuglan to update his points list, but he submits a spreadsheet and we simply import it into the database.

It is really not a hosting companies job to data enter results from a tourney into a spreadsheet. That is a webmaster's job and webmaster's get paid for their time.

Mike

I can provide you guys with free hosting (on my account at BlueHost).
Please PM regarding "a lot of work". I do web development, web marketing and will be able to consult :)
